The name is derived from the first \nletters of the three capital cities of Copenhagen, Brussels, and \nAmsterdam — the centers from which the CoBrA artists took action. Little\n is still known here in Germany about the concrete origins of the art \nmovement. The exhibition and catalogue of the same name attempts a broad\n examination of the group’s origins: with the focus on the \nreconstruction of the movement prior to its official establishment in \nNovember 1948. It aims to present a representative cross-section of the \nmovement that includes the largest possible number of artists as well as\n the greatest possible concentration of forms of expression and topics \ncharacteristic of the movement. Roughly fifty paintings, thirty \nsculptural works, fifty graphic reproductions and photographs as well as\n individual ceramics and textiles from international collections are \npresented. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n        \n    \n    \n        \n            \u003cp\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eFirst consideration of the origins of this art \nmovement, which was so central to the development of the art of the \ntwentieth century \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eCoBrA\u003c\/b\u003e gehört zu den wichtigsten \nKünstlergruppen des Informel. Der Name leitet sich aus den \nAnfangsbuchstaben der drei Hauptstädte Kopenhagen, Brüssel und Amsterdam\n ab – die Zentren, von denen aus die CoBrA-Künstler\/-innen agierten. \nÜber die konkreten Anfänge der Kunstbewegung gibt es hierzulande nur \nwenig Kenntnis. Die Ausstellung und der gleichnamige Katalog versuchen \ndie Anfänge breit angelegt zu untersuchen: Im Fokus steht die \nRekonstruktion der Bewegung vor der offiziellen Gründung im November \n1948. Abgebildet werden soll ein repräsentativer Querschnitt der \nBewegung, der sowohl eine möglichst hohe Anzahl an Künstler\/-innen als \nauch eine möglichst hohe Dichte an für die Bewegung charakteristischen \nAusdrucksformen und Themenkreisen umfasst.
