In her reappraisal of Bede's \u003ci\u003eEcclesiastical History, Lives of the Saints, History of the Abbots\u003c\/i\u003e, the \u003ci\u003eLesser\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eGreater Chronicles\u003c\/i\u003e and the \u003ci\u003eMartyrology\u003c\/i\u003e and the audience for these texts, the author draws out the role played by classical forms of genre and rhetoric in the crafting of his work.Shealso explores the underlying political influences that caused Bede to write \u003ci\u003ehistoria\u003c\/i\u003e as he did.
