The data shows that Quakers were present across most economic sectors, often as self-employed artisans or retailers. They were ordinary people, and this book is, unusually, a tribute to the unrecorded masses. I argue that this group contained a larger working-class segment than has been reported previously, and that future studies should take this segment into account when drawing their conclusions. Data collection rates decrease as distance from London increases.
