Dufays combina los análisis fílmicos con una amplia reflexión teórica sobre las cuatro nociones clave de alegoría, melancolía, nostalgia y duelo yrticula con una genealogía de la figura alegórica del niño en las tradiciones narrativas latinoamericanas. This book is the first monograph devoted to the role of the child in Latin American cinema.  Through close analysis of about ten Argentine fiction films of the post-dictatorship period directed between 1983 and 2008, including both classic  such as \u003ci\u003eThe Official Story\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eA Place in the World\u003c\/i\u003e) and forgotten works such as \u003ci\u003e Amigomío\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eEl rigor del destino\u003c\/i\u003e. Dufays shows how the child's gaze and language are a meansof focusing a nostalgic form of allegory, structured around either memory or verbal language, and related to the figure of the absent father.
