It examines four major texts which appear in both languages: \u003ci\u003eLe Chevalier au lion\u003c\/i\u003e and its Swedish translation \u003ci\u003eHerr Ivan\u003c\/i\u003e; \u003ci\u003eLe Conte de Floire et Blancheflor\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eFlores och Blanzeflor\u003c\/i\u003e; \u003ci\u003eValentin et Sansnom\u003c\/i\u003e (the original French text has been lost, but the tale has survivedin the prose version \u003ci\u003eValentin et Orson\u003c\/i\u003e) and the Swedish text \u003ci\u003eNamnlös och Valentin\u003c\/i\u003e; and \u003ci\u003eParis et Vienne\u003c\/i\u003e and the fragmentary Swedish version \u003ci\u003eRiddar Paris och jungfru Vienna\u003c\/i\u003e. Each is analysed through the lens of different themes: female characters, children, animals and masculinity.
