The poem remained popular throughout the fourteenth century and was soon followed by two sequels. Twenty-six illuminated manuscripts constitute part of a catalogue and concordance of all Peacock manuscripts. One of the most provocative, (PML, MS G24), has twenty-two miniatures which illustrate chivalry and courtly love, as epitomized in the text. An unusually high number of scurrilous marginalia, however, surround them. An interdisciplinary exploration of iconography, reception, image-text-marginalia dynamics, and context reveals their ultimate polysemy as scatological comedians and serious harbingers of sin.","brand":"Domenic Leo","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":48269481017595,"sku":"9789004250031","price":219.0,"currency_code":"USD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0779\/3917\/9771\/files\/CoreSourceHub_fb36e7ff-9316-432c-a142-54319ceeef81.jpg?v=1778022909","url":"https:\/\/indiepubs.com\/products\/images-texts-and-marginalia-in-a-vows-of-the-peacock-manuscript-new-york-pierpont-morgan-library-ms-g24-9789004250031","provider":"IndiePubs","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
