Two different concepts for a modern way of life \nwere created: Hoffmann promoted a comprehensive aestheticization of all \nspheres of life, while Loos interpreted architecture and design as the \nfunctional background for the development of individual personalities. \u003cbr\u003eIn\n 16 essays, well-known European and American experts investigate a wide \nrange of contributing conditions and the highlights and consequences of \nthese two traditions of the \u003cem\u003eModerne\u003c\/em\u003e movement, from the 19th \ncentury to the present.
