These writings were been secretly preserved by a few families, and are also called \u003ci\u003ehidensho\u003c\/i\u003e (‘secretly transmitted writings’) or \u003ci\u003ehiden\u003c\/i\u003e (‘secret traditions’). These secret texts were discovered and published from 1908, with the last of Zeami’s treatises coming to light in 1956. The \u003ci\u003eSarugaku dangi\u003c\/i\u003e is a unique source for the history of early Nō.
