The United States vs Alfredo Martinez documents the life and work the New York City-based artist notorious for forging the works of artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring. He was arrested for wire fraud after selling forged Basquiats and sentenced to time in prison in 2002. During his time in prison, Martinez continued making art using unconventional materials like coffee and fruit juice and his work was even featured in gallery shows. He saw his imprisonment as a "publicity stunt" and an opportunity to make a statement about the art world's valuation of authenticity and money. He even gave a forgery master class as part of The Downtown Biennial where attendees learned how to create a fake Basquiat. Martinez later collaborated with and mentored Anna Delvey (Anna Sorokin), a con artist who had also been imprisoned for defrauding the art world. Martinez curated a show of Delvey’s work, and even created some of the pieces himself when she faced prison restrictions. Alfredo Martinez passed away in 2023 at the age of 56. His life and unconventional approach to art cemented his place in New York's underground art scene and earned him a spot in collections like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Rothschild Collection.

Did You Kiss A Cat Today???

    Regular price $19.99 Save $-19.99

Did You Kiss A Cat Today??? was written by 3 poets who applied the skill and sophistication of how they write for older folks and applied it to how we write for younger folks. For one thing, they think children are very smart and have a very sly sense of humor. Sometimes, though, adults overlook this. They don’t, and they don’t talk down! They’ve tried to meet children on their level, a level they consider pretty high. Plus, they try not to be too preachy. Poetry is true and serious and fun, and that’s the magic they wanted to convey. This book is fresh and exhilarating because even though these poems come from three distinct sensibilities, they do, both individually and collectively, conjure a child’s world with its irrepressible freshness. Everything that happens can be the poem. The smallest thing; the largest thing. To tell a story is good. To tell just a piece of a story is good. In a poem, you don’t have to finish the story. Sometimes the middle of the story can be best! So, enjoy the poems!”

The Madness of Todd Serlin an intersection of toxic nirvana and urban daydreams.  This book celebrates the human condition with unexpected heroes and colorful primitive figures that present exaggerated features and flaws to mirror the beauty and pain of our shared experience.  The Madness of Tood Serlin's linear compositions reveal a penchant for abstraction and are fueled by the rhythmic chaos of urban surroundings, people, and cultural influence.  Every page, every artwork offers an opportunity to channel expression, tension, and energy – bringing the outside in while simultaneously letting go.  The Madness of Todd Serlin is for people to experience a unique feeling when viewing the book – to inspire dialogue and encourage the audience to decipher and create their own narrative.
