Description

Chicago in Color offers a new minimalist and colorful perspective of Chicago.

In 2019, photographer Judit Prat Martí left behind her hometown of Terrassa, a city near Barcelona, and moved to Chicago to accept a position as part of the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department at the University of Chicago. Upon arriving in Chicago, she endeavored to explore and understand Chicago from all its perspectives through her photography.

Chicago in Color is the result of this exploration and a love letter to Chicago and to the people she has met in the city. The book presents a new collection of photographs taken in 32 different neighborhoods, showcasing 17 neighborhoods on the South Side.

Each photo has been artfully edited to highlight a specific color or color combination, offering a new way to see the city that will inspire readers to appreciate the beauty in the small things that are present in all neighborhoods of Chicago.

Reviews
"Chicago in Color is a modestly-scaled gem with many facets of lively color. There are views of familiar places seen through fresh eyes, but the book’s strength lies in the smallest of details: minimalist compositions of nature or infrastructure linked by a colorful photographic palette." - WTTW News
"If Andy Warhol and Wes Anderson designed a vision of the city, it would probably look like the one in Judit Prat Marti’s volume, [Chicago in Color]." - Block Club Chicago
Author Bio
Judit Prat Martí has always loved taking pictures. Originally from outside Barcelona, Judit started taking classes at Richard Stromberg’s Chicago Photography Classes school while a Postdoctoral fellow at the Astronomy and Astrophysics department at the University of Chicago. Judit loves how photography encouraged her to explore her new home of Chicago, exploring and getting to know the city and its various neighborhoods. Many Sundays, she would take her bike and her camera, and choose a neighborhood to explore, photographing everything that would catch her eye. Judit’s studies have since taken her to Stockholm, where she is looking forward to exploring a new city and continuing to capture the magic with her camera.
