At the heart of many leadership challenges lies an often-overlooked factor: our relationship with uncertainty.
Certainty is a fundamental human need. When it’s challenged, our brains often interpret that as a threat; we narrow our focus and make quick decisions, with poor judgement. Sustained uncertainty can make us vulnerable to stress, overwhelm, self-doubt, anxiety and burnout. It can also result in safety-seeking behaviours such as procrastination, perfectionism and even addiction.
Managing uncertainty well is a leadership capability that has never been more important. Leaders today are expected to make faster decisions with less complete information, under sustained uncertainty and with real consequences for others. This volatility is unlikely to change any time soon.
Could I Be Wrong? is designed to raise your awareness of your relationship with uncertainty and equip you to be more comfortable with it. Grounded in psychology, and supported by lived experience and in-depth interviews with senior leaders across sectors, this book is evidence based but designed for real-world application
Annabelle White is a Chartered Coaching Psychologist and accredited Executive Coach with over 25 years of international experience supporting leaders and leadership teams through complex transitions and challenging times. She works with senior leaders and their teams to navigate change, recognising it as both an organisational and a psychological process.
With an academic background in Economics, Annabelle began her career in management consulting, working with large multinational organisations undergoing significant transformation. She later spent a decade living and working in the Middle East, where she began working in leadership development. Her curiosity about how and why people change led her back to the University of London to study Organisational Psychology, and to coaching as a practical way of turning insight into action. After completing her executive coaching qualification at Henley Business School, she founded Change Navigating Ltd, where she continues to work with senior leaders and teams across multinational organisations, public sector bodies, and charities.
Annabelle is a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society and holds senior accreditations with international coaching bodies. She writes regularly on leadership and uncertainty, contributes to panel discussions, and speaks at professional events. Based in the UK, Annabelle works internationally with leaders facing the realities of an increasingly uncertain world.
