Der Band schließt die Text-Ausgabe der Tagebücher ab, die Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach durch viele Jahrzehnte führte. Insgesamt sind 36 Jahrgänge aus den Jahren 1862 bis 1909 im Mährischen Landesarchiv Brünn erhalten, weitere (bis 1916) von fremder Hand überliefert. Diese Tagebücher sind, der literarischen Bedeutung ihrer Autorin entsprechend, in mehrfacher Hinsicht bedeutungsvoll: biographisch, werkgenetisch, literarhistorisch (mit einer Fülle von Aphorismen) und - das Leben einer Adeligen in der Habsburger Monarchie dokumentierend - kulturgeschichtlich.

Der sechste Band umfaßt das letzte Lebensjahrzehnt der Dichterin. Es ist die Zeit der späten Ehrungen. Nachdem sie 1900 als erste Frau die Ehrendoktorwürde der Universität Wien erhalten hat, wird sie 1909/10 zum Ehrenmitglied der Schiller- und der Goethegesellschaft ernannt, sie erhält den Elisabeth-Orden I. Klasse, und von Freunden wird ihr zu Ehren an ihrem achtzigsten Geburtstag der Ebner-Eschenbach-Fonds gegründet. In der literarischen Öffentlichkeit gilt Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach nun unumstritten als die führende deutschsprachige Schriftstellerin. Es ist zugleich eine Zeit erstaunlicher Produktivität. Neben ihren autobiographischen Schriften ("Meine Erinnerungen an Grillparzer") entstehen noch eine Fülle neuer Erzählungen, sie faßt Veröffentlichtes und bislang noch Unpubliziertes in Auswahlbänden zusammen. Zugleich zeigt sich Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach als wache und kritische Beobachterin des Zeitgeschehens: angefangen von den stärker werdenden Nationalitätenkonflikten in der Habsburger Monarchie bis hin zum Ersten Weltkrieg, den sie anfänglich noch mit Zustimmung, dann aber mehr und mehr mit Skepsis und schließlich mit Abscheu verfolgt.

Das gedruckte Lebenswerk des Gründervaters der deutschen Soziologie wird durch eine Gesamtedition für die internationale Forschung und Lehre erschlossen. Mit Band 10 erscheint der sechste der auf 24 Bände angelegten Ferdinand Tönnies Gesamtausgabe (TG). Das vorherrschende Thema der Schriften Tönnies’ in den Jahren 1916 bis 1918 ist der Erste Weltkrieg, dessen literarische Begleitung er als nationale Verpflichtung ansah, der sich kein Intellektueller entziehen konnte. Insbesondere die inneren politischen und gesellschaftlichen Verhältnisse Englands, dessen Außen-, Kolonial- und Weltpolitik, die „Kriegstreiberei“ Englands und Russlands und völkerrechtliche Aspekte des Weltkriegs charakterisieren seine politische Publizistik jener Jahre. Geradezu als Kontrapunkt zu diesen von einem volkspädagogischen Impetus getragenen Schriften zeigen die Erinnerungstexte an Theodor Storm ein tiefes freundschaftliches Verhältnis, dessen literaturhistorische Bedeutung weitgehend unbeachtet geblieben ist.

Die Bestimmungen des Versailler Friedensvertrages lösten 1919 in Deutschland nicht nur wegen des "Kriegsschuldartikels", der Gebietsverluste und der Reparationen heftige Reaktionen aus, sondern diese und zahlreiche weitere Bestimmungen griffen auch tief in die Handlungsspielräume deutscher Unternehmen ein. Die Handelsflotte wurde beschlagnahmt, ein Teil der Jahresproduktion beispielsweise von Kohle und Chemieprodukten waren als Reparationsleistungen an die Siegermächte zu leisten, ausländische Tochtergesellschaften und deutsche Patente im Ausland wurden enteignet. Der Sammelband zeigt an ausgewählten Beispielen, auf welche Weise deutsche Unternehmen mit diesen Herausforderungen umgingen.

She proposes a new model for cultural change, which puts intellectual marketing at its core. This book retells the story of the New Culture Movement in light of the diversifi ed and decentered picture of Republican China developed in recent scholarship. It is a lively and ironic narrative about cultural change through academic infi ghting, rumors and conspiracy theories, newspaper stories and intellectuals (hell-)bent on selling agendas through powerful buzzwords.

In seiner 1922 erschienenen Schrift Kritik der öffentlichen Meinung reflektiert Tönnies umfassend über Grundlagen, Strukturen und Wirkungsmechanismen der öffentlichen Meinung. Sie ist eines der bekanntesten Werke Tönnies'.

Le Corbusier fasst in seinem ersten Buch jene erregenden Aufsätze über Architektur zusammen, die er 1920/22 für die Zeitschrift “Esprit Nouveau” schrieb. Vers une Architecture wurde eines der einflussreichsten und zugleich am wenigsten verstandenen Architekturbücher des 20. Jahrhunderts. Es gilt als einer der grossen Vor-Entwürfe für neues Bauen.

In TG 17 werden zwei Bücher Tönnies' aus dem Jahr 1926 wieder zugänglich. Die schmale Monographie "Das Eigentum" behandelt ein tagesaktuelles Thema. 1926 gipfelte die seit 1918 intensive politische Diskussion zum Umgang mit dem konfiszierten Eigentum der in der Revolution entmachteten Fürsten in Volksbegehren und Volksentscheid. Tönnies vertieft in eine grundsätzliche rechtssoziologische Ausarbeitung zum Eigentum, besonders dem Bodeneigentum. Die Sammlung "Soziologische Studien und Kritiken II" macht einen großen Teil der kleineren Schriften zugänglich, in denen Tönnies seinen Zugang zur Soziologie zwischen den großen Monographien "Gemeinschaft und Gesellschaft (1887, TG 2) und der "Einführung in die Soziologie" (1931, TG 21) entwickelt. Das reicht von begrifflich-konzeptionellen Überlegungen über die Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichte des soziologischen Denkens in Philosophie und Staatswissenschaft bis zu Analysen, in denen Tönnies die Fruchtbarkeit der Begriffe seiner Soziologie an sozialen Zusammenhängen erprobt. Wichtig hier vor allem seine Soziologie des Versicherungswesens, an der er zeigt, wie sich eine gemeinschaftliche Institution der gegenseitigen Hilfe in ein Geschäft wandelt und wie dieses durch staatliche Regulierung modifiziert wird; in Tönnies' Perspektive ein Beispiel für die Entwicklung des Kapitalismus zum "Sozialismus", zu einer sozialen Marktwirtschaft. Von höchstem Interesse auch die Auseinandersetzung mit der Geschichtsphilosophie Ernst Troeltschs.
