Baris Kumru is a polymer chemist by education and obtained his Ph.D. in 2019 at the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces. From 2022 to 2025 he has been an assistant professor (permanent) at the Delft University of Technology in the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering. There he merged his skills on polymer and energy materials in scalable aerospace materials engineering context. Since October 2025, he is employed at VISTEC in Thailand at Energy Science and Engineering Faculty.  His current interests are lightweight engineering, photocatalysis technologies for energy generation on Earth and space, scalable energetic materials, sustainable/recyclable polymer systems for aerospace applications. He has secured notable amount of grants, mostly industrial, summing up more than a million Euros and he has been recognized as influential scientist in 2022 by American Chemical Society’s Industrial&Engineering Chemistry Research. His work has been featured on few public platforms as diverse as KLM Airlines in-flight magazine.
