Energy efficiency is often at odds with aesthetics and with architectural extravagance. Architects are under pressure to reduce energy consumption and conserve depleting natural resources, yet the projects they aspire to build—the ones that dominate the covers of design magazines—remain as opulent and extravagant as ever.
