Drawing on ethnographic research in the Koya adivasi community of Andhra Pradesh, this book examines the intergenerational experience of sweeping socio-economic change across adivasi India. Following a literary trajectory, it begins with the oral history of a single hilltop village and traces the transformations that have reshaped family life and social relations. Contrasting the experiences of Koya people at different points along a spectrum of cultural and economic integration, it explores how local lives have been shaped by engagement with wider regional and national contexts. In doing so, it offers a nuanced account of continuity, change, and belonging.
This is a compelling ethnography of the multiple ways and aspects in which Koyas of southern India are transitioning.
