Nahuatl, also known as Aztec or Mexican, is the most widely spoken indigenous language in North America, with more than 1.5 million speakers primarily in Mexico and Central America. The period of Aztec dominance from the early fifteenth to the early sixteenth century was also the golden age of the Nahuatl language. During this period the language spread from central to western Mexico, to the Gulf Coast, and into Central America.

The recent resurgence of interest in the cultivation of the Nahuatl language and Nahuatl literature both in Mexico and in the United States make this dictionary a valuable tool for native speakers, students, linguists, historians, and scholars of Aztec culture. This dictionary is largely based on the classical variety of Nahuatl from Central Mexico.

  • More than 9,500 total entries
  • Includes both classical and modern Nahuatl words
  • Synopsis of Nahuatl pronunciation
  • Comprehensive grammar section
  • Index of common Nahuatl phrases and words
