"Gr 2-6–A picture book that sets out to make physics accessible to younger readers by connecting physics concepts to home. The book starts with a short conversation between two people, one trying to convince the other that physics is not only important but interesting and relatable. There is a table of contents along with a visual guide to the contents, showing different parts of the house with page numbers, so readers are invited to start reading at any point in the book. Each room has at least four pages devoted to ideas connected to that space. For example, the bathroom has information on fog on the mirror (precipitated water vapor), water flowing from the tap, water flowing out of the tub, the mechanics of a shaving or make-up mirror, static electricity in your hair and the odors of the bathroom. Each idea presented offers short text on what’s happening and why, as well as cartoon images to support it. Readers can skip around anyway they like, following their curiosity. This is not for reading aloud but will make an excellent resource for children to pore over. VERDICT This is an excellent introduction to physics in a highly relatable format and a strong choice for libraries." —Debbie Tanner, School Library Journal

"Each chapter is filled with a ton of information! There is a short section on energy conservation, as well as the five senses. The illustrations are well done. They are brightly colored and do a fantastic job of showing different elements on physics, such as water molecules, snowflakes, and static electricity! Included in the back matter is a fun glossary! This book makes a great introduction for budding scientist! Perfect for the classroom or library, as well as homeschool settings!" —Cherokee Crum, YA Books Central
"I thought it was a great primer for budding scientists and could be very appropriate for a classroom or school library." —Kiss the Book Jr
"The Awesome Physics in Your Home" is a delightful book for introducing children to Physics. By using items and experiences around the home (Static electricity while combing hair is a favorite!) Physics concepts are easily understood. Physics stops being scary and difficult and becomes a way to describe the world. I'd put "The Awesome Physics in Your Home" on holiday and birthday gift lists as well as "just because" lists!" —Laurie S., NetGalley-Librarian
"Discover the incredible physics that keep our homes up and running in the infinitely interesting and insightful, “The Awesome Physics in Your Home,” Written by The Amazing Theatre of Physics and illustrated by Tomas Kopecky, this text explores all the rooms in one’s house and the fascinating science behind everyday phenomenon. Physics - and all of the sciences, for that matter! - were not my strong suit in school. This volume would have proved exponentially helpful. Complex topics are presented in a phenomenally accessible and entertaining way, leaving readers not only wanting to read more but also learning a ton along the way. The illustrations are similarly endearing, bringing humor and relatability to each and every room of the house." —Olivia the Librarian, IG
The Amazing Theatre of Physics is an entertainment and educational group that performs science experiments in order to show people how the world around us works in a way that is fun and exciting. They’re like magicians, only they explain how their tricks work. Having started performing in 2008, they travel around the world with their show, performing in a wide range of venues, from theaters, town squares, and schools to churches, synagogues, and retirement homes.
Vojta Hanak, a graduate teacher of mathematics and physics, has dedicated nearly two decades to bringing the wonders of science and the laws of nature to people of all ages and professions. Over the years, he has performed experiments in theaters, on camera, at the altar, and in synagogues. In addition to his passion for the natural sciences and their history, he is also an avid musician.
Bara Mikulecka is a graduate teacher of mathematics and physics, and also holds a degree in astrophysics. She has been an integral part of The Amazing Theatre of Physics for many years, and it has become her second family. Bara is also the founder of the ULeT camp and the KrTeK club. She actively teaches at an elementary school, conducts seminars for teachers, and produces popularization videos. Her ultimate goal is to convey the beauty of physics and science, aiming not only to make physics enjoyable but, more importantly, to inspire people to contemplate the world around them. Beyond her educational outreach, Bara is an enthusiastic rock, mountain, and glacier climber.
Karolina Liskova studied condensed matter physics and physics education. Rather than focusing solely on physics in the laboratory or on computer screens, she was increasingly drawn to the idea of imparting her knowledge to others. At The Amazing Theatre of Physics, she takes pleasure in sharing the excitement of how fascinating the world around us can be. In addition to her role as a scout leader, you're most likely to find her exploring the world of rocks and mountaintops.
Jakub Pise, a teacher of mathematics and physics, has been performing science experiments in schools and kindergartens for several years. In addition to his passion for science, he is known for his skill in card magic, and he used to perform in evening cafes and tea rooms.
