The mystery that sparked an international mystery phenomenon! This original edition of The Secret of the Old Clock (1930) introduces readers to the assertive and spunky Nancy Drew, complete with her golden hair and spunky attitude that would be retroactively toned down after the departure of Mildred Benson, the original author behind the famous Carolyn Keene pseudonym.
Nancy is a young sleuth whose investigative skills can be attributed both to her natural inclination to push the boundaries and her father’s long-time employment as a high-profile criminal defense lawyer. In this first adventure, she is inspired to assist the Turners, a down-on-their-luck family who would be in line for the fortune of the recently deceased Josiah Crowley, if only they could find the will. Nancy soon discovers that the Topham family, currently next in line for the fortune, is most likely hiding the true will inside an old clock in their mansion. The investigation leads to Nancy's capture by burglars and escape through the middle of a deadly cops-and-robbers shootout. Although dangerous, this adventure does not deter her, and she continues on her investigations and good works in the over 600 Nancy Drew books published across 13 series.
