Obwohl Adjektive bzw. ihre semantischen Korrespondenzen in vielen Sprachen, u.a. im Deutschen und Koreanischen, als eigenständige Wortart präsent sind, verhinderten es die sprachspezifischen morphosyntaktischen Differenzen, von einer diesen Sprachen gemeinsamen Wortart Adjektiv zu sprechen. Die Arbeit befaßt sich mit der semantisch-funktionellen Adjektivdefinition als Grundlage einer möglicherweise universellen Kategorie Adjektiv. Für die morphosyntaktischen Unterschiede, die Adjektive sprachspezifisch aufweisen, werden im Rahmen der generativen Grammatik funktionale Kategorien ausgearbeitet, die nicht nur zur adäquateren Beschreibung der Adjektivsyntax dienen, sondern auch zur Beschreibung der universalen Satzstruktur beitragen können. So werden (Nicht-)Deklinierbarkeit bzw. (Nicht-)Konjugierbarkeit der Adjektive, die mit dem (Nicht-)Vorhandensein einer Kopula zusammenhängen, als eine Instanz parametrischer Variation von funktionalen Kategorien erklärt.

Zur Adjektivderivation im Deutschen gibt es zum einen diachrone Studien einzelner Suffixe, zum anderen synchrone Studien des Gesamtsystems. Auf der Basis eines fünf Jahrhunderte umfassenden Korpus zeichnet diese Studie nun die langfristige Entwicklung der adjektivischen Suffixderivation nach. Gegliedert nach den Domänen der wichtigsten Suffixe (-lich, -ig, -isch) zeigt der empirische Teil erstmals die genauen Produktivitätsverläufe auf und analysiert sie in ihrer gegenseitigen Bedingtheit. Dabei werden die Parameter herausgearbeitet, die im Konkurrenzgefüge den Aufstieg oder Fall der einzelnen Muster bedingen. Neben systeminternen Faktoren spielen hier auch sprachgeschichtliche Entwicklungszüge wie die zunehmende Schriftsprachlichkeit mit ihrer Tendenz zur nominalen Verdichtung eine wichtige Rolle. Die Implikationen der Befunde für die morphologische Theoriebildung werden im Rahmen eines konstruktionsgrammatischen Ansatzes diskutiert.

Extending shelf life, improving quality, and reducing waste of leafy vegetables during transport and storage are key to tackling the global food challenge. Leafy vegetables – as the most popular crop grown in indoor vertical farms – are considered an important contributor to a healthy diet but generally have a short shelf life. In this chapter, we provide a comprehensive definition of quality and review studies on the effect of high photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) applied prior to harvest on phytochemicals in leafy vegetables. Increasing levels of phytochemicals (vitamin C, phenolics and carbohydrates) under high PPFD can directly improve health-related values at harvest, and more importantly, through their involvement in metabolic and redox homeostasis, ensure sufficient antioxidant capacity in leaves and suppress quality decay in storage. Increased PPFD during growth can be integrated with indoor vertical farming to improve quality and extend the shelf life of leafy vegetables.

Sie gelten noch heute Teilen der Forschung als zentrale Indikatoren dafür, dass sich der ostelbische Adel um 1900 im „Todeskampf“ befunden hätte. Dirk H. Müller weist in seiner Studie nach, dass die hohen Besitzwechselanteile auf dem Gütermarkt Brandenburgs und Pommerns und die konstatierten „Besitzverluste“ des Adels die in Ost und West völlig unterschiedlichen Strategien des Adels außer Acht lassen, ihren Besitz zu wahren. Psychiatric disorders in adolescents are an important social problem which is relevant to almost all healthcare professionals. According to the results of The National Comorbidity Survey-Adolescent Supplement (NCS-A), the lifetime prevalence of anxiety, behavior, mood, and substance use disorders among adolescents was 31.9%, 19.1%, 14.3%, and 11.4%, respectively. Approximately 40% of participants in this survey with one class of disorder also met criteria for another class of lifetime disorder. Comorbidity is increasingly recognized as a key feature of mental disorders among adolescents. Female adolescents are more likely than males to have mood and anxiety disorders, but less likely to have behavioral and substance use disorders.

Regretfully, medical professionals are not sufficiently trained about adolescent psychiatric disorders. For example, primary care providers correctly identify less than a fourth of youth with a depressive or anxiety disorder. Also, many clinicians underestimate the importance of the problem of adolescent psychiatric illnesses and suicidal behavior. Lack of skilled medical providers impedes the delivery of needed services to adolescents with mental health issues. This coupled with a lag in the ability of primary health care services to incorporate psychiatric interventions, and a failure of public health initiatives to pay attention to adolescent mental health problems has led to continuing gaps in care over decades despite the public pronouncements of needs.

Adolf Cluss was born in 1825 into a middle-class family of master stonemasons, engineers and entrepreneurs in Heilbronn, Germany. A colleague and correspondent of Karl Marx, and a participant in the unsuccessful German revolution of 1848, he emigrated to the United States. Until 1858 he remained a member in the German Communist Party although by then he had established himself in both German-American life and in the professional and intellectual milieu of Washington where he was soon considered the most important architect. Thanks to Cluss’s imagination, technical skills, and vision of a new cityscape, Washington became a showcase for the nation through the handsome public buildings and private structures that expressed national confidence and international interest in improving the health, safety, and beautification of cities. Cluss’s work as an architect, civil engineer and urban planner in Washington represents a long neglected chapter in the development of the capital city during the social and physical rebuilding that followed the Civil War.

Major scholars in the field place Cluss’s life and career in a historical context. Their essays are enhanced by many previously unpublished illustrations drawn from years of research. A photo essay at the center of the book vividly illustrates Washington in Cluss’s time, Cluss’s contribution to Washington, and the fate of Cluss’s buildings and city.

Die Dorpater Preisschrift des 19jährigen Adolf Harnack (1851-1930) zu dem Thema "Marcionis doctrina e Tertulliani adversus Marcionem libello eruatur et explicetur" (deutschsprachig abgefaßt und unter dem Titel "Marcion. Der moderne Gläubige des 2. Jahrhunderts, der erste Reformator" eingereicht) ist 1870 von der Theologischen Fakultät in Dorpat mit der Goldenen Medaille ausgezeichnet und zur Veröffentlichung empfohlen worden. Das voluminöse Werk (476 Seiten) blieb damals gleichwohl unveröffentlicht. Durch Harnacks Leipziger Jahre zieht sich noch wie ein roter Faden die Idee einer Monographie zu Marcion aus Sinope, doch erst 50 Jahre später läßt er die große Monographie "Marcion. Das Evangelium vom fremden Gott" erscheinen. In dem Spätwerk hat Harnack die Dorpater Jugendschrift noch einmal vollständig neu bearbeitet, von der nach seinen Worten "auch nicht ein Satz stehen geblieben ist" (Vorwort).

Das verschollen geglaubte Manuskript der Dorpater Preisschrift wurde überraschend in der Berliner Staatsbibliothek entdeckt und wird mit dieser kritischen Edition in transkribierter Form zugänglich gemacht. Zusätzlich zu dem Neufund werden in einem Anhang das Gutachten Moritz Baron von Engelhardts, das Dorpater Studienbelegbuch Harnacks sowie das Redemanuskript des späten Vortrags "Marcion. Der radikale Modernist des 2. Jahrh." (1923) ediert.

Die Dorpater Preisschrift ist nicht nur aufschlußreich für die Marcion-Interpretation und das historisch-theologische Denken des frühen Harnack, dessen Doppelbegabung als Geschichtsschreiber und Textphilologe sich bereits deutlich abzeichnet. Aufgrund der intensiv zu Rate gezogenen zeitgenössischen Literatur bietet sie auch Einblick in die ältere Marcion-Forschung des 19. Jh. und ermöglicht es, vor diesem Hintergrund die innovativen Impulse Harnacks für die weitere Marcion-Interpretation zu würdigen.

An intimate collection of vignettes reveals Loos’ personality, temperament and philosophy during the last years of his life (1929-1933) and the ways in which he helped shape Modern architecture. This translation, by Constance C. Pontasch and Nicholas Saunders, is the first English edition, the book having enjoyed several reprints in German.

The author, Claire Beck Loos, was a photographer and Adolf Loos’ last wife. She was born in 1904 in Czechoslovakia; her family were Jewish industrialists and important early clients of Loos, commissioning several apartments in Pilsen and works by the architect’s friend Oskar Kokoschka. In addition to being a biography of her husband, Adolf Loos—A Private Portrait also serves as a self-portrait of Claire, a vibrant young artist who died a tragic and untimely death at Riga, a Nazi concentration camp, in 1942. The book includes supplemental texts by Claire’s niece Janet Beck Wilson, biographical materials and previously unpublished artistic photographs by the author.

Als Architekt und Lehrer an der Breslauer Akademie für Kunst und Kunstgewerbe gehörte Adolf Rading (1888–1957) zu den Protagonisten des Neuen Bauens in der Weimarer Republik. Seine Projekte, seine Schriften und sein kulturpolitisches Engagement inspirierten Schüler und Kollegen.

In der Werkbundsiedlung in Stuttgart 1927 war Adolf Rading mit einem Musterhaus vertreten. Die Werkbundausstellung Wohnung und Werkraum (WuWA), mit der sich Breslau 1929 als moderne Großstadt profilierte, ging auf seine Initiative zurück. Mit dem vom Bauhaus nach Breslau gewechselten Oskar Schlemmer schuf er in Zwenkau eines der eindrucksvollsten Wohnhäuser der Moderne.

Die Emigration 1933 ohne Rückkehr nach Deutschland und die Teilung Europas nach 1945, die Radings Wirkungsort Breslau aus dem Blick geraten ließ, erschwerten lange die Rezeption seines Werkes.

Die Autor*innen zeichnen die Karriere des Architekten und seine Netzwerke nach und verfolgen seine Wege im Exil in Haifa und London. Kommentierte Quellentexte erschließen Radings theoretische Ansätze. Die Publikation steht im Kontext aktueller Initiativen zum Erhalt zweier Großbauten des Architekten im heutigen Wrocław.
