Addicted to Christ

Addicted to Christ
Regular price $34.95 Save $-34.95
Addicted to Love
Regular price $14.95 Save $-14.95It’s hard to imagine love without the pain. Women who live with love addiction are a unique breed having learned to cope in a sex-driven world by finding their worth in sexuality and being wanted. The human need for lasting, meaningful relationships is constantly sabotaged by these women’s own behaviors on top of events outside their control. In Addicted to Love, Lacy A. Bentley—a woman who has been there—introduces her own recovery journey with courageous honesty to guide other women on their paths to recovery. Each chapter focuses on a different trait of emotional health and teaches women to integrate that trait in a workbook-style format. Lacy shows them how to secure their romantic heart, love like they were meant to, and break free from compulsive patterns, while presenting new ways of seeing day-to-day patterns. Every word guides brave women into the relationships they truly want and deserve—without excuses, compulsions, or addiction in the recovery roadmap of the future.
Addicted to Reform
Regular price $25.95 Save $-25.95During an illustrious four-decade career at NPR and PBS, John Merrow—winner of the George Polk Award, the Peabody Award, and the McGraw Prize—reported from every state in the union, as well as from dozens of countries, on everything from the rise of district-wide cheating scandals and the corporate greed driving an ADD epidemic to teacher-training controversies and America's obsession with standardized testing. Along the way, he taught in a high school, at a historically black college, and at a federal penitentiary.
Now, the revered education correspondent of PBS NewsHour distills his best thinking on education into a twelve-step approach to fixing a K–12 system that Merrow describes as being "addicted to reform" but unwilling to address the real issue: American public schools are ill-equipped to prepare young people for the challenges of the twenty-first century.
This insightful book looks at how to turn digital natives into digital citizens and why it should be harder to become a teacher but easier to be one. Merrow offers smart, essential chapters—including "Measure What Matters," and "Embrace Teachers"—that reflect his countless hours spent covering classrooms as well as corridors of power. His signature candid style of reportage comes to life as he shares lively anecdotes, schoolyard tales, and memories that are at once instructive and endearing.
Addicted to Reform is written with the kind of passionate concern that could come only from a lifetime devoted to the people and places that constitute the foundation of our nation. It is a "big book" that forms an astute and urgent blueprint for providing a quality education to every American child.

The emotional “bottom” of recovery. Just as one needs to hit bottom with drinking or using in order to begin recovery, eventually one will also hit an emotional “bottom” of fear, anger, and grief. And recovery can only start by first understanding how, when, and where those emotions took control. Author Barb Rogers challenges readers in recovery to investigate the unresolved grief and loss in their lives and helps readers navigate the impacts of those emotions—emotions that can lead back to using if not resolved.
Finding healing and happiness. Recovery from addictions involves more than getting sober. It involves finding happiness, which can only happen if the emotional work is done as well. Negative emotions have the ability to weigh on us and influence both our decisions and the way we handle life’s challenges. If we continue to live with fear, anger, and grief, we aren’t really free from our addictions. The steps to recovery—authentic and complete recovery—involve healing from the deeper issues in our life. Learn more about:
- The emotional healing that goes hand-in-hand with addiction recovery
- Dealing with grief and resolving underlying issues
- How to find happiness after getting sober

Addiction and Devotion in Early Modern England
Regular price $69.95 Save $-69.95Rebecca Lemon illuminates a previously-buried conception of addiction, as a form of devotion at once laudable, difficult, and extraordinary, that has been concealed by the persistent modern link of addiction to pathology. Surveying sixteenth-century invocations, she reveals how early moderns might consider themselves addicted to study, friendship, love, or God. However, she also uncovers their understanding of addiction as a form of compulsion that resonates with modern scientific definitions. Specifically, early modern medical tracts, legal rulings, and religious polemic stressed the dangers of addiction to alcohol in terms of disease, compulsion, and enslavement. Yet the relationship between these two understandings of addiction was not simply oppositional, for what unites these discourses is a shared emphasis on addiction as the overthrow of the will.
Etymologically, "addiction" is a verbal contract or a pledge, and even as sixteenth-century audiences actively embraced addiction to God and love, writers warned against commitment to improper forms of addiction, and the term became increasingly associated with disease and tyranny. Examining canonical texts including Doctor Faustus, Twelfth Night, Henry IV, and Othello alongside theological, medical, imaginative, and legal writings, Lemon traces the variety of early modern addictive attachments. Although contemporary notions of addiction seem to bear little resemblance to its initial meanings, Lemon argues that the early modern period's understanding of addiction is relevant to our modern conceptions of, and debates about, the phenomenon.

Addiction in the Family
Regular price $49.95 Save $-49.95This book identifies and addresses potential clinical issues for clients who have family members struggling with addiction, and offers concrete strategies for treatment. Viewing addiction as a family disease, Dr. Kelly explores the complex challenges faced by family members, examines the ways in which substance use disorders affect family dynamics, and discusses behaviors that help to sustain recovery and create and maintain healthy relationships.
A brief history of substance abuse is provided, as are the primary models of addiction and family theory. Chapters on codependency and the emotional, relational, and behavioral consequences of living with a family member with a substance use disorder follow. The universality of substance abuse is then examined along with specific ethnic and cultural differences. Family support group treatment options complete the text. Case conceptualization exercises that contain reflections, implications for the counselor, and discussion questions for application of the material are interspersed throughout the book to link theory to practice.

Addiction, Representation and the Experimental Novel, 1985–2015
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Across the past two centuries, the Western novel has propagated the narrow view of the addict as a toxic force bent on undermining the rationality, morality, and progressive spirit that have, since the Enlightenment, defined civilization in the West. Addiction, Representation undertakes an investigation into an alternative literary tradition within which the addict is neither doomed to a horrific death nor sacrificed to the Twelve Steps so that the “recovering addict” might survive. At the center of this investigation is a modest collection of contemporary novels, originally published in the thirty-year span between 1985 and 2015, that exhibits experimental narrative techniques and, in doing so, unsettles the limited portrayal of the addict that has dominated the Western realistic novel since the nineteenth century.
Examining the works of John O’Brien, Sara Gran, Paula Hawkins, Bret Easton Ellis, and Grace Krilanovich, the book argues that the ways in which readers occupy the narratives of contemporary experimental fiction can be instructive for how to live in an extra-diegetic world, where attitudes toward addicts often are as narrow, restrictive, and damaging as they historically have been expressed in the Western novel. The book concerns itself with the practices and politics of reading the experimental addiction novel, and outlines both a practice and an ethics of reading that advocates for a more compassionate response not only to fictional addicts, but also to the actual addicts whose lived experiences gave birth to the existing fiction.

Addictive Behaviour in Children and Young Adults
Regular price $35.00 Save $-35.00Addiction is one of the most critical problems of our modern world, affecting children as much as adults. We face not only a widespread dependency on illicit substances, but also addictions to food, beverages, cigarettes and alcohol, as well as electronic gadgetry, online social networks, and entertainment media within a culture of violence, along with excessive and unhealthy sexual practices.
This book explores the overall health consequences of addictive behavior in children and young people, as well as its underlying causes. Drawing on anthroposophical insights, the author sees the child holistically as body, soul and spirit on a developmental journey from newborn to adult. He examines specific addictions through case histories taken from his clinical practice, and offers a tried and tested method to understand and manage each individual child or young person who succumbs to such dependencies.
This book will be of value to parents, teachers and health professionals who work with children and adolescents; to young people and adults caught up in unhealthy addictive behavior; and to all those who wish to understand better their own human nature.
Adding The Blue

‘These paintings wake me up, show me life, make me want to get up and do something.’ – Brian Eno
‘The fact that Chrissie is a great musician underpins her painting in a variety of ways... She learns by doing and in the process her work becomes more distinctive and compelling, an expression of the life force within made visible.’ – Tim Marlow, Royal Academy of Arts
In November 2015, Chrissie Hynde, the singer, songwriter and leader of The Pretenders, produced an oil painting of a ceramic vase. Fulfilling an intention that she would, one day, dedicate herself to painting, it would prove to be the starting point for Hynde’s first body of work, nearly 200 canvases in all. These paintings are shared for the first time in Adding The Blue.
With Forewords by visionary musician and artist, Brian Eno, and The Royal Academy’s artistic Director, Tim Marlow, Adding The Blue is captioned throughout with Chrissie Hynde’s thoughts and reflections.
Beginning with still life studies and culminating in vibrant abstract compositions, Chrissie Hynde’s Adding The Blue is a beautiful volume of paintings that are, in Eno’s words, ‘full of life, love and discovery’.

Additive Operator-Difference Schemes
Regular price $340.00 Save $-340.00Applied mathematical modeling is concerned with solving unsteady problems. Splitting schemes are attributed to the transition from a complex problem to a chain of simpler problems. This book shows how to construct additive difference schemes (splitting schemes) to solve approximately unsteady multi-dimensional problems for PDEs. Two classes of schemes are highlighted: methods of splitting with respect to spatial variables (alternating direction methods) and schemes of splitting into physical processes. Also regionally additive schemes (domain decomposition methods) and unconditionally stable additive schemes of multi-component splitting are considered for evolutionary equations of first and second order as well as for systems of equations.
The book is written for specialists in computational mathematics and mathematical modeling. All topics are presented in a clear and accessible manner.
Address in Portuguese and Spanish
Regular price $114.99 Save $-114.99The volume provides the first systematic comparative approach to the history of forms of address in Portuguese and Spanish, in their European and American varieties. Both languages share a common history—e.g., the personal union of Philipp II of Spain and Philipp I of Portugal; the parallel colonization of the Americas by Portugal and Spain; the long-term transformation from a feudal to a democratic system—in which crucial moments in the diachrony of address took place. To give one example, empirical data show that the puzzling late spread of Sp. usted ‘you (formal, polite)’ and Pt. você ‘you’ across America can be explained for both languages by the role of the political and military colonial administration. To explore these new insights, the volume relies on an innovative methodology, as it links traditional downstream diachrony with upstream diachronic reconstruction based on synchronic variation. Including theoretical reflections as well as fine-grained empirical studies, it brings together the most relevant authors in the field.

Addresses Against Incorporating Union, 1706-1707
Regular price $60.00 Save $-60.00In 1706-1707, a proposed union of the Scottish and English kingdoms excited vigorous debate. Dozens of Scottish burghs, shires and parishes sent petitions to the Scottish parliament, known as addresses, to protest against the treaty of union. The addresses reveal local opinions and feelings, as expressed through a sophisticated petitioning campaign. They show how Presbyterians and Jacobites joined in an oppositional coalition, which disagreed on most matters of church and state, but agreed to oppose the union. Thousands of male tenant farmers, artisans and servants subscribed with their own hands, or via notaries and church elders. Campaigners argued that these opinions mattered and that parliament should listen to the "mind of the nation". Though ultimately unsuccessful, the campaign had a strong impact on the shape of the union.
This volume provides a transcript of each local voice from the originalhandwritten documents, explaining the circumstances in relation to the voting patterns of members of the Scottish Parliament. An introduction sets the addresses in their historical context.

Addressing gender inequities in accessing agricultural extension and advisory services
Regular price $32.50 Save $-32.50Extension and Advisory Services have historically been challenged to meet the needs of both women and men producers in environments where women typically have benefited less. However, there are examples of projects and programs where gender equity in access to these services has been improved. In this chapter, the authors will review extension programs using the Gender Integration Continuum, an approach that examines gender integration from non-existent (gender blind) to fully integrated (gender transformative). They highlight programs that have utilized innovative techniques to more fully meet the needs of male and female producers using case studies from successful integration in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. The authors summarize these examples to glean possible solutions for future work in extension programs that more fully integrate and address underlying issues limiting gender equity.
Addressing Hate Crime and Incidents in Neoliberal Universities
Regular price $110.00 Save $-110.00While contemporary European universities are often imagined to be a forward-thinking environment fostering acceptance and inclusivity, universities can be crucial sites for the reproduction of oppression. As modern universities diversify, they increasingly become the first site where young people are confronted with diversity, leading to ignorant biases and, sometimes, targeted violence. In Addressing Hate Crime and Incidents in Neoliberal Universities: An Examination of Universities’ Policies, criminologist Kahyeng Chai takes readers on a behind-the-scenes examination of prejudice in modern higher education, covering numerous hot-button issues including sexism, islamophobia, racism, misogynoir, homophobia, and antisemitism.
Chai tackles this thorny topic through a thorough analysis of various national studies, news reports, and academic research, from the landmark study conducted by the National Union of Students in 2011 to the '2019 survey conducted by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Despite laudable progress across the English higher education sector, a lack of clarity around reportable behaviours, understanding towards students’ experiences of racial harassment, and awareness among students of such policies means the extant policies have room for improvement. Chai, however, establishes a new, effective policy for addressing students’ experiences of hate crime and incidents, utilising an innovative new theoretical framework: institutional critical victimology.
Packed with fieldwork, policy analyses, and rock-solid next steps, Addressing Hate Crime and Incidents in Neoliberal Universities provides unique insights and guidance on how modern higher education institutions globally can learn, adapt, and grow in the modern era.

For many such places the pursuit of growth is no longer a viable strategic option. As the ability of small towns to compete with larger cities for private investment and government support diminishes, the number trapped in a spiral of long-term decline grows.
Beginning with a brief overview of the global context, highlighting that urban shrinkage and decline is a widespread problem, Schlappa and Nishino illustrate how small towns can generate sustainable forward strategies in contrasting institutional contexts by fostering co-production, adjusting public facilities and right sizing the urban area.
The analytical tools and practical examples provided by Schlappa and Nishino are relevant for political and administrative decisionmakers, leaders of civil society and business organisations in developing locally appropriate, creative and robust strategies to shrink smart and re-grow smaller.
Addressing Women in Early Medieval Religious Texts
Regular price $95.00 Save $-95.00From the tenth to the twelfth centuries in England and Scotland we have scant evidence of women's writing. How, then, can we access these women's experiences?
This book argues that by analysing texts deliberately written for and addressed directly to women we gain an insight into the horizons of possibility for their lives. It examines religious texts addressed to women, bringing together works that are more widely studied with others that are less well known, and demonstrates continuities across Old English and Latin texts written for female readers and patrons across the Conquest period. Case studies, ranging from Ælfric's sermons to Aelred's De institutione inclusarum, from the Life of Christina of Markyate to Goscelin's saints' lives for Wilton and Barking Abbeys, attend to the intimate scripts women were encouraged to inhabit through a close focus on the form of the textual address. By concentrating on address, the book illuminates how women were encouraged to live, and by following women's commissioning and copying of texts, it demonstrates which of these textual addresses women valued and attempted to follow.
Addressing Xenophobia in South Africa
Regular price $104.99 Save $-104.99Xenophobia is a salient issue in South Africa. Prominent episodes of violence targeting migrants and refugees have received enormous attention from scholars, researchers, policymakers, government officials, and media agencies. Focusing on a prominent episode of anti-immigrant violence in the Durban area of the KwaZulu-Natal province, Addressing Xenophobia in South Africa identifies the hidden, less addressed dimensions and catalysts of this violence.
Bethuel Sibongiseni Ngcamu and Evangelos Mantzaris have carried out a cutting-edge investigation of the multiple set of factors that generate public violence. By examining particular social dynamics and circumstances in marginal locations, and drawing on interviews with key informants, this book also provides a critique of the response of the South African government. Covering the role of economic competition, the media, and the nuances of micro-politics and localised processes that fuel violent xenophobia in townships and other settlements, this book provides a uniquely detailed study of an episode of large-scale violence involving migrants and refugees.
Showcasing information not captured by other research methods, the in-depth local-level research with multiple actors and stakeholders, this book yields new and interesting information, left previously undiscovered, about important social and political processes at a local level.

Adel ohne Land – Land ohne Adel?
Adel und Bürgertum in Deutschland I

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
By the author of Stolen Focus, Johann Hari.
When Johann Hari saw his photo as "Customer of the Month" at the Kentucky Fried Chicken around the corner, he realized he had a serious problem with his diet, weight, and health. That was the moment he went to the doctor and started injecting Ozempic, the new anti-obesity drug that has revolutionized the health and pharmaceutical industries. Some projections suggest that, in a few years, a quarter of the Western population will turn to the same treatment. For its advocates, medications like Ozempic promise a true cure, counteracting risks such as diabetes, cancer, and premature death. But are they really as good as they seem?
If Stolen Focus immersed us in the causes and consequences of living glued to our phones, this new book tackles another major obsession of modern life: losing weight. To explore this, the author embarks on a journey from Iceland to Tokyo and Minneapolis, interviewing scientists, doctors, and patients who reveal the risks these new drugs pose to our physical and mental health. At the same time, he examines the implications their use will have on the economy, nutrition, and healthcare systems. Ozempic and similar drugs are about to transform our world—for better and for worse. It’s time to understand them from a scientific, emotional, and cultural perspective.
"On the brink of a medical revolution, this book is an essential guide through the complex scientific, emotional, and cultural landscape of the fascinating, unexplored territory of weight-loss medications." —Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit

Adelsreformideen in Preußen

Adenauer's Germany and the Nazi Past
Regular price $75.00 Save $-75.00Of all the aspects of recovery in postwar Germany perhaps none was as critical or as complicated as the matter of dealing with Nazi criminals, and, more broadly, with the Nazi past. While on the international stage German officials spoke with contrition of their nation's burden of guilt, at home questions of responsibility and retribution were not so clear. In this masterful examination of Germany under Adenauer, Norbert Frei shows that, beginning in 1949, the West German government dramatically reversed the denazification policies of the immediate postwar period and initiated a new "Vergangenheitspolitik," or "policy for the past," which has had enormous consequences reaching into the present.
Adenauer's Germany and the Nazi Past chronicles how amnesty laws for Nazi officials were passed unanimously and civil servants who had been dismissed in 1945 were reinstated liberally—and how a massive popular outcry led to the release of war criminals who had been condemned by the Allies. These measures and movements represented more than just the rehabilitation of particular individuals. Frei argues that the amnesty process delegitimized the previous political expurgation administered by the Allies and, on a deeper level, served to satisfy the collective psychic needs of a society longing for a clean break with the unparalleled political and moral catastrophe it had undergone in the 1940s. Thus the era of Adenauer devolved into a scandal-ridden period of reintegration at any cost. Frei's work brilliantly and chillingly explores how the collective will of the German people, expressed through mass allegiance to new consensus-oriented democratic parties, cast off responsibility for the horrors of the war and Holocaust, effectively silencing engagement with the enormities of the Nazi past.

Regular price $19.99 Save $-19.99From Frustration to Connection
Bold, practical, and compassionate, ADHD Parenting: From Meltdowns to Momentum gives overwhelmed parents a clear, evidence-based path to calmer days, stronger relationships, and real progress at home and school. Blending clinical expertise with lived experience, therapist Joshua Terhune reframes “difficult” behaviors as signals—and shows how to meet an ADHD child with connection, not control.
A calm home starts with feeling understood. Drawing on years of ADHD-focused counseling and his nationally-followed parenting classes, Terhune teaches parents how the ADHD brain actually works—executive function, sensory processing, and emotional regulation—so meltdowns, impulsivity, and “inconsistency” finally make sense. When you understand the “why,” you can change the “what.”
Authority with heart, science you can use. Terhune’s connection-first approach translates research into step-by-step tools: love-and-limits discipline that protects self-esteem, routines that work with an ADHD brain, and advocacy strategies for IEP/504 plans that build partnership with teachers. Real family stories remind readers they’re not alone, and that success is measured in progress, not perfection.
Inside, you’ll find:
- Behavior tools that work with the ADHD brain—connection-before-correction scripts, playful coaching, and executive function supports that reduce power struggles
- Home systems that create calm—sensory-informed routines, transition plans, and environment “hacks” that cut chaos and boost follow-through
- School and life scaffolds—IEP/504 essentials, strength-based motivation, and small-win ladders that grow independence and confidence

Adieu to Emmanuel Levinas
Regular price $100.00 Save $-100.00This volume contains the speech given by Derrida at Emmanuel Levinas's funeral on December 27, 1995, and his contribution to a colloquium organized to mark the first anniversary of Levinas's death. For both thinkers, the word adieu names a fundamental characteristic of human being: the salutation or benediction prior to all constative language (in certain circumstances, one can say adieu at the moment of meeting) and that given at the moment of separation, sometimes forever, as at the moment of death, it is also the a-dieu, for God or to God before and in any relation to the other.
In this book, Derrida extends his work on Levinas in previously unexplored directions via a radical rereading of Totality and Infinity and other texts, including the lesser-known talmudic readings. He argues that Levinas, especially in Totality and Infinity, bequeaths to us an "immense treatise of hospitality," a meditation on the welcome offered to the other. The conjunction of an ethics of pure prescription with the idea of an infinite and absolute hospitality confronts us with the most pressing political, juridical, and institutional concerns of our time. What, then, is an ethics and what is a politics of hospitality? And what, if it ever is, would be a hospitality surpassing any ethics and any politics we know?
As always, Derrida raises these questions in the most explicit of terms, moving back and forth between philosophical argument and the political discussion of immigration laws, peace, the state of Israel, xenophobia—reminding us with every move that thinking is not a matter of neutralizing abstraction, but a gesture of hospitality for what happens and still may happen.

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
A funny erotic comedy by Megan Maxwell
Yanira works as a singer in the hotels of Tenerife. She is single and lives surrounded by her family. His life is placid and, in a way, comfortable.
But Yanira likes to experience new things, and decides to enter the world of partner exchanges. In one of the bars she frequents, she meets an Italian who will teach her that sex goes far beyond what she knew until now.
A year later she moved to Barcelona and began working as a waitress on a holiday cruise ship called Espíritu Santo. Also on the boat is Dylan, an attractive employee in the maintenance section who barely pays attention to her, despite Yanira's continuous smiles.
What she doesn't know is that he observes her more than she thinks, and although the misunderstandings that arise between them make her think otherwise, the attraction they feel will make them meet and share endless erotic, fun and sensual games.
Adjectival Modification and Order Restrictions
