Der künstlerische Hochdruck als Ursprung der Medienkunst bietet Jahrtausende überspannende Entwicklungslinien. Diese sind in der Sammlung von Herwig Tachezi nach zu vollziehen und bilden den Ausgangspunkt für die Beschäftigung der Studierenden der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien mit den historischen Meisterwerken des Hochdrucks. Als „Junge Meister“ beschäftigen sich diese mit den unterschiedlichen Werken der „Alten Meister“. Die Annäherung an die historischen Werke erfolgt dabei auf vielfältige Weise, konzeptuell, formal, ästhetisch oder auch technisch. Ergänzt werden die Arbeiten der Studierenden durch Werke von Jan Svenungsson und Michael Schneider.

Die Philologie, im engeren Sinn verstanden als Textkritik, ist in den neusprachlichen Fächern zu einer so hochspezialisierten Tätigkeit geworden, daß sie seit längerer Zeit der weiteren Fachwelt kaum noch methodologische Impulse gegeben hat. Dies hat sich mit der Propagierung einer sogenannten 'New Philology' zu Beginn der 90er Jahre schlagartig geändert, die Textkritik auf Texttheorie und Textgeschichte bezieht. Der Band vereinigt die Ergebnisse eines internationalen Kolloquiums an der Universität Jena (19.-21.10.1995), bei dem Romanisten und Germanisten, Linguisten und Literaturwissenschaftler die Thesen der 'New Philology' kritisch prüften mit dem Ziel, den Dialog der verschiedenen Teildisziplinen wieder in Gang zu bringen.

The journey culminates on the Lower East Side in a moving reunion between Rosa and Gershon, her first love. Traditional notions of sacred kingship became both more grandiose and more problematic during England's turbulent sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The reformation launched by Henry VIII and his claims for royal supremacy and divine right rule led to the suppression of the Mass, as the host and crucifix were overshadowed by royal iconography and pageantry. Agricultural intensification, or the increase in crop production per unit of input or land area to meet the needs of a growing population, has resulted in a landscape dominated by large scale monoculture cropping. Pollinators, specifically, are impacted by the lack of diverse floral and habitat resources associated with this type of farming. Agriculture must develop practices that diversify the crop landscape and increase the availability of habitat and flowering resources to support these populations. In this chapter, we summarize the available literature on how the production space, i.e., within a crop production field, orchard, or pasture, can be more effectively managed to sustain pollinator populations. We report on various spatial and temporal approaches within the context of various cropping systems (row crops, specialty crops, perennial orchards, and perennial forage and pasture systems). Collectively, these approaches represent opportunities to re-introduce diversity into the agricultural landscape to benefit pollinators.

Exchanges have always had more than economic significance: values circulate and encounters become institutionalized. This volume explores the changing meaning of the circulation of second-hand goods from the Renaissance to today, and thereby examines the blurring of boundaries between market, gifts, and charity. It describes the actors of the market - official entities such as corporations, recognized professions, and established markets but also the subterranean circulation that develops around the need for money. The complex layers that not only provide for numerous intermediaries but also include the many men and women who, as sellers or buyers, use these circulations on countless occasions are also examined.

In the conventional hatching system environmental conditions (such as temperature, level of dust, use of disinfectants) may be suboptimal and furthermore, chickens lack access to feed and water until placement in the rearing house, which may be suboptimal too. This has led to development of alternative hatching systems. These alternative hatching systems differ in various ways from conventional hatching systems and these differences may affect day-old chicken quality as well as later life health, welfare and performance. This chapter compares alternative hatching systems with the conventional hatching system. It can be concluded that alternative hatching systems might be less challenging for chickens than the conventional hatching system, but effects on day-old chicken quality, and later life health, welfare and performance vary. For optimal chicken health, welfare and performance, settings in both the conventional and alternative hatching systems are more important than the hatching system itself.

While the city has formed a key theme for scholars of literary fiction, travellers’ modes of writing the city have been somewhat neglected by travel studies. However, travel writing with its attention to difference provides a rich source for the study of representational ‘strategies’ and ‘tactics’ in the modern city. Tracing spatial practices of French travel writers in London and New York from1851 to the 1980s, this book contributes to a body of work that analyses travel and travel writing beyond the Anglophone context, and engages a variety of travel writing in questions surrounding French modalities for negotiating and establishing a nexus of meanings for life in the modern city. One of the central tenets of the book is that, in the way its spaces are planned, encountered and represented, the city is operational in the formulation of identities and ideologies, and the book’s guiding question is how travel and travel writing allow for the exploration of urban modernity from a perspective of exchange. The relationship between the Chinese nation and its recent past has been fraught with contradictions and tensions. This collection aims to make sense of this complex relationship and challenge the prevalent state-centric and nation-centric modes of history writing on modern China. It explores alternative representations of the past and the salience of political conflicts and competitive histories in China, highlighting the paradoxical similarities in such representations of the past from the late nineteenth century to the present. In the 1980s generative grammar recognized that functional material is able to project syntactic structure in conformity with the X-bar-format. This insight soon led to a considerable increase in the inventory of functional projections. The basic idea behind this line of theorizing, which goes by the name of cartography, is that sentence structure can be represented as a template of linearly ordered positions, each with their own syntactic and semantic import.

In recent years, however, a number of problems have been raised for this approach. For example, certain combinations of syntactic elements cannot be linearly ordered. In light of such problems a number of alternative accounts have been explored. Some of them propose a new (often interface-related) trigger for movement, while others seek alternative means of accounting for various word order patterns.

These alternatives to cartography do not form a homogeneous group, nor has there thus far been a forum where these ideas could be compared and confronted with one another. This volume fills that gap. It offers a varied and in-depth view on the position taken by a substantial number of researchers in the field today on what is presumably one of the most hotly debated and controversial issues in present-day generative grammar.
