Der vorliegende Band bietet zum ersten Mal in der germanistischen Fachgeschichte exklusiv eine umfassende Untersuchung der kulturellen Überlieferung des niederdeutschen Raums im Frühmittelalter. Das thematisch breite Spektrum des Bandes umfasst verschiedene Aspekte von Geschichte und Sprache bis zu Glossen und Textüberlieferung. Ein besonderer Akzent liegt auf den größeren Bibeldichtungen (Heliand und Genesis) sowie auf den kleineren Texten in altsächsischer Sprache. Der Band, der auf ein internationales Colloquium an der Otto-von-Guericke Universität Magdeburg zurückgeht, belegt damit nicht nur, dass es eine äußerst lebendige und interdisziplinäre Forschung in diesem Bereich gibt, sondern auch dass sich auf der Grundlage der hier vorgestellten Erkenntnisse in vielerlei Hinsicht neue Perspektiven für eine methodisch fundierte weitere Erforschung des gesamten Gegenstandsbereiches ergeben.

Die zuletzt in zweiter Auflage im Jahre 1910 erschienene »Altsächsische Grammatik« von Johan Hendrik Gallée ist bis heute das materialreichste Handbuch zur Laut- und Flexionslehre des Altsächsischen geblieben, das außer dem appellativischen Wortmaterial auch in großem Umfang Personen- und Ortsnamen berücksichtigt. Das wichtige Standardwerk wird hier in einem reprografischen Nachdruck wieder zugänglich gemacht. Dabei sind das umfängliche Druckfehlerverzeichnis, das der zweiten Auflage beigegeben ist, und eine Anzahl sonstiger Korrekturen in den Text eingearbeitet worden. Ferner wurde das von Johannes Lochner erstellte Wörterverzeichnis kritisch durchgesehen. Auf die seit der zweiten Auflage publizierten Textausgaben und auf Untersuchungen zur Grammatik des Altsächsischen macht ein Literaturnachtrag aufmerksam.

Im Rahmen der Neubearbeitung der Altsächsischen Grammatik entstand das Altsächsische Handwörterbuch, das den appellativischen Wortschatz der altsächsischen Periode vollständig erfasst und auch die Neufunde der letzten Jahrzehnte einschließt. Die Belege der ausgewerteten und an den Handschriften überprüften Quellen sind vollständig verzeichnet, auch (mit entsprechender Kennzeichnung) althochdeutsche oder altenglische Formen, die in ihnen erscheinen. Lateinische Vorlagewörter der Übersetzungstexte sind ebenfalls aufgenommen. Verzeichnet sind alle belegten Schreibungen altsächsischer Wörter mit grammatischer Bestimmung und mit Stellenangabe für die im Quellenverzeichnis genannte Edition. Bei hochfrequenten Wörtern (z. B. Artikeln oder Pronomina) werden ebenfalls alle Schreibformen verzeichnet, jedoch lediglich mit Quellensiglen ohne Stellenangaben. Die in den ausgewerteten Texten auftretenden Namen sind in einem besonderen Verzeichnis beigegeben. Alvar Aalto, born 1898 in Kuortane in Finland, is one of the last of the works personalities of the twentieth century architecture generation. His buildings, from urban planning to simple residential buildings, function as a single organism. He was never interested in formal architectural theories. The path of each building is fascinating, from the first fleeting sketches to the completed work handed over to the client, and strongly defined by the personality of the architect. Everything remains alive and in motion, seems casual and natural as if it grew naturally out of the surroundings. Das Allgemeine Künstlerlexikon (AKL) ist Nachfolger der traditionsreichen kunsthistorischen Standardwerke Thieme-Becker und Vollmer und erscheint seit 1991. Selbst längst ein Standardwerk, beschränkt es sich bewusst nicht auf die großen Meister: bildende Künstler aus aller Welt und aus allen Zeiten, von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart, werden aufgenommen. Enthalten sind nicht nur Maler, Bildhauer oder Graphiker, sondern auch Architekten, Designer, Fotografen, Schriftkünstler, Kunsthandwerker u.v.m. Rund 1.500 Künstlerbiographien werden für jeden Band zusammengestellt. Nach jeweils zehn Bänden erscheint ein Register nach Ländern und künstlerischen Berufen.

Mit dem aktualisierten Editionsplan wird die Printausgabe im Jahr 2022 abgeschlossen. Dafür wird der Anteil von Artikeln verstärkt, die nur online erscheinen.

The life and figure of Álvaro Obregón have undergone significant changes in perception, both during his life and after his death. This book takes you from his childhood, marked by poverty and epidemics, to his rise to the presidency of Mexico. It also narrates the causes that made his military career possible, how he moved from the periphery to the center of the country, and how the drive of his troops influenced the nation’s direction. It includes his return to Sonora in 1925, his second presidential tour in 1927-1928, and his downfall in July as a victorious candidate.

Although the Reformation took place in the sixteenth century, this was the beginning of something and not the end. The Reformed churches affirmed the need to be semper reformanda (Latin for "the Church must always be reformed")

Unfortunately, this commitment to continuing reformation has not been faithfully and consistently maintained over the centuries. At one end of the theological spectrum, some have invoked semper reformanda in order to justify abandoning the core of Reformation theology and departing from received orthodoxy. At the other end, some have forgotten about semper reformanda in their progress towards a rigid confessionalism, giving the impression that the final codification of truth has already taken place, and that there is no further need for reformation.

Between these two extremes, there is a vital task to be performed by the church in every generation: to subject its beliefs and practices to renewed scrutiny in the light of Scripture. In doing so, the church must re-state biblical truth in ways that faithfully communicate the gospel, advance the mission of the church, and address the issues which men, women and children face as they seek to follow Christ and witness to him.

This volume is an exercise in semper reformanda. Each contributor was asked to take a different theme, doctrine or subject area within the discipline of systematic theology, and to assess the current state of scholarship in that area, before indicating areas where further work, development, re-statement or clarification are required. Overall, this stimulating collection is intended to make a positive contribution to evangelical scholarship, by helping to identify problems, dangers and exciting new possibilities, and to set an agenda for future theological reflection.

During her regency, Amalasuintha clashed with a conservative Gothic aristocracy who resisted her leadership, garnered support among her Roman and pro-Roman subjects, defended Italy from the ambitions of other kings, and negotiated the expansionistic designs of Justinian and Theodora. When her son died unexpectedly at a young age, she undertook her most dangerous political enterprise: forming an unmarried coregency with her cousin, Theodahad, whom she raised to the throne. His final betrayal would cost Amalasuintha her rule and her life.

Amal’ezulu (Zulu Horizons), first published in 1945 in the Bantu (later, African) Treasury Series by the University of the Witwatersrand Press, was the second volume of poetry produced by the renowned Zulu author B.W. Vilakazi. It was written during the ten years he spent living in Johannesburg, in ‘exile’ from his birthplace, KwaZulu-Natal. The poems in this collection represent a turning point in Vilakazi’s life; they express yearnings for the beloved land, animals and ancestral spirits of his rural home, as well as expressions of deep disillusionment with the urban life he encountered in the ‘City of Gold’, and in particular the suffering of the black miners who brought this gold to the surface but never experienced the benefits of the wealth it produced for the mine owners. Vilakazi was deeply conscious of the subhuman system that held these miners in its grip, and gave voice to their suffering in many of the poems in the collection, in particular the now famous poem ‘Ezinkomponi’ (‘On the mine compounds’).

Renowned as the father of Nguni literature, Vilakazi was both a traditional imbongi (bard) and a forward-looking poet who could fuse Western poetic forms with Zulu izibongo (praise poetry). In these poems he assumes the role of the voice of the voiceless, and gives poignant expression to the stoic endurance of those caught up in the brutalities of capitalist exploitation of African labour, and the appalling injustices of the migrant labour system.
