Analytical Chemistry is important and applied, experimental field of science that employs different instruments, and methods for the collection, separation, identification, and quantification of various organic, inorganic, and biological molecules. This interdisciplinary branch is based not only on chemistry but also on other disciplines such as biology, physics, pharmaceutical, and many areas of technology. The book is organized into six sections and provides information pertinent to the important techniques, and methods employed in analytical chemistry. It covers the basic concepts of qualitative and quantitative analysis, spectrochemical methods of analysis, along with thermal- and electroanalytical methods. Qualitative analysis identifies analytes, while quantitative analysis determines the concentration or numerical amount of the molecules under study. This book also exposes students to the different laws of spectroscopy, and various electronic transitions that occur in the different regions of the electromagnetic spectra. The main objective of this work is to develop an understanding and make learners familiar with the basic analytical methods employed in the chemical analysis of various compounds.

The book compiles papers presented at the International Conference 'Advances in Applications of Analytical Methods in Solving Differential Equations', held in honour of Academician Lev V. Ovsiannikov’s 105th birthday anniversary. This collection reflects his extensive contributions to the theory of differential equations, modelling, and the application of analytical methods. In addition to classical methods such as analytical integration of systems of equations and their applications in various fields of Science and Engineering, the book explores new areas of research. This includes the application of group analysis to novel mathematical models and nonlinear problems, particularly equations with nonlocal terms (symmetries of difference and differential equations, as well as fractional differential equations). One of the notable contributions in the book is the development of a Hamiltonian approach for delay differential equations, representing a novel area of research that has not been previously explored. The book is anticipated to appeal to a broad audience of experts in applied mathematics, fluid dynamics, and modelling, as well as to young scientists and graduate students interested in the analysis of nonlinear equations.

Human decisions, especially in management and personnel selection, are based on making judgments about people analytically and intuitively. Yet in business and scientific contexts, judgments are expected to be based on a rational analysis rather than intuitions or emotions. Intuition is often seen as something mystical that should not be trusted and thus eliminated from human decision-making.

Our empirical and theoretical research shows that this is impossible when people are dealing with people. Instead, intuitions and emotions have significant power in the decision-making process. Neuroscience even shows that humans are incapable of switching off their emotions or intuitions when making decisions. Therefore, intuition and emotions as evolutionary achievements of human beings should be looked at more closely to use the wisdom they offer.

This book provides an insight into the current state of research on rational-analytical procedures in personnel selection and complements this with research on intuitions and emotions in personnel diagnostics.

By integrating scientifically verifiable rational-analytical decision-making procedures with the inner experiential knowledge of people, this book bridges two complementary ways of recognizing and making good decisions. It demonstrates how intuitions are developed and used in different fields of practice and cultures and how scientific research results from rational-analytical and intuitive-emotional selection procedures are successfully integrated by practitioners.

Die 1894 erstmals erschienenen „Logarithmische Rechentafeln für Chemiker" von Friedrich Wilhelm Küster mauserten sich zu einem Klassiker unter den Nachschlagewerken zur Analytischen Chemie. Im Vordergrund stand und steht immer die Unterstützung des Anwenders in Fragen der schnellen, hochqualitativen Versorgung mit Informationen rund um Analysentechniken. Dies ist auch in Zeiten der zunehmenden Dominanz des Internets noch von unschätzbarem Wert. Wer dort eine Frage stellt, bekommt darauf zwar Antworten, nur sind diese oftmals verschieden und auch widersprüchlich, so dass der nicht so versierte Experte hilflos vor dem Informationschaos steht. Hier setzt dieses mittlerweile „Analytik – Daten, Formeln, Übungsaufgaben" genannte Lehrbuch an und bietet von Experten gesichtete, bewertete und in vielen Fällen auch an praktischen Fragestellungen erklärte Informationen in geschickt aufbereiteter Form an.

In der 110. Auflage wurden die für Analysentechniken relevanten Informationen durch Neusortierung besser zugänglich gemacht und die immer wichtiger werdende instrumentelle Analyse um neue Kapitel u.a. zur Atomspektrometrie und Massenspektrometrie erweitert. Gleichzeitig wurde die Nomenklatur an aktuelle Empfehlungen der IUPAC angepasst.

Diese Analytische Einführung behandelt die wichtigsten Grundfragen und -probleme der Erkenntnistheorie und enthält eine ausführliche Darstellung von Positionen und Argumenten aus der gegenwärtigen Diskussion. Sie richtet sich an Studierende der Philosophie und anderer Fachgebiete, bietet aber auch für philosophische Kenner eine gewinnbringende kritische Orientierung.

Für die zweite Auflage wurde der Text vollständig überarbeitet, um die jüngsten Entwicklungen im Themenfeld zu berücksichtigen. Am Ende jedes Kapitels gibt es nun Studienfragen zur selbständigen Rekapitulation und kommentierte Hinweise auf wichtige neue und weiterführende Literatur. Im Anhang finden sich Vorschläge für thematisch fokussierte Lehrveranstaltungen auf der Grundlage dieses Buches.

Für die 3. Auflage wurde der Band durchgesehen und die Literaturliste aktualisiert. Die erfolgreiche Einführung in die Philosophie des Geistes liegt mit diesem Band nun in der dritten, nochmals überarbeiteten Auflage vor. Das Studienbuch informiert in systematischer Orientierung über den gegenwärtigen Stand der Diskussion. Die Grundfragen, die mit dem Leib-Seele-Problem verbunden sind, die zu diesen Fragen vertretenen Positionen sowie die entsprechenden Argumente und Gegenargumente werden knapp, aber so umfassend dargestellt, dass sich die Leser einen zuverlässigen Überblick verschaffen können.

Die Numerische Mathematik ist einer der Grundpfeiler des Mathematik-, Ingenieur-, Physik- und Informatikstudiums. Dieses zweibändige Lehrbuch ist für Einführungsvorlesungen konzipiert und legt eine solide Basis für weiterführende Lerneinheiten. Der Text ist aus Vorlesungsmanuskripten hervorgegangen, die der Verfasser seit etwa 30 Jahren für seine Grundvorlesungen auf dem Gebiet der Numerischen Mathematik und des Wissenschaftlichen Rechnens an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena verwendet.

Das Buch deckt den gesamten Bereich der Numerischen Mathematik von den klassischen Techniken wie Gaußscher Algorithmus und Newtonsches Verfahren bis hin zu modernen Algorithmen wie kubische Spline-Interpolation, Kleinste-Quadrate-Approximation mittels Householder- und Givens-Transformationen sowie Deflationstechniken ab. Die Verfahren werden mathematisch exakt beschrieben, in MATLAB-Codes implementiert und anhand von Beispielen demonstriert. Die MATLAB-Codes sind auf der Webseite des Verlages zum Download bereitgestellt, so dass der Leser seine eigenen Experimente mit den numerischen Verfahren durchführen kann.

Durch seinen didaktischen Aufbau und die zahlreichen anschaulichen Beispiele und Übungsaufgaben eignet sich dieses Buch hervorragend als vorlesungsbegleitende Lektüre und als Grundlage für ein erfolgreiches Selbststudium. Gleichzeitig kann es von Mathematikern, Naturwissenschaftlern und Ingenieuren als profundes Nachschlagewerk herangezogen werden.

Mit der 4. Auflage wurde das umfangreiche Standardwerk der Numerischen Mathematik so in zwei Bände aufgeteilt, dass diese relativ unabhängig voneinander gelesen werden können. An vielen Stellen wurde der Text überarbeitet und ergänzt. Das betrifft insbesondere diejenigen Abschnitte, die für Lehrerstudenten relevant sind sowie die Implementierung der numerischen Verfahren in der Programmiersprache MATLAB.

Diese kompakte Einführung in die Gebiete der Analytischen Zahlentheorie, die den Primzahlsatz, den Satz über Primzahlen in arithmetischen Folgen und die Riemannsche zeta-Funktion zum Gegenstand hat, wurde für einen einsemestrigen Kurs für Studierende der Mathematik an der Universität Innsbruck konzipiert. Die anregende Darstellung und der Einschluss der Resultate aus der Analysis, Funktionentheorie und Gruppentheorie, auf die die Analytische Zahlentheorie zurückgreift, erlauben ebenso die Benutzung des Buches zum Selbststudium, wie auch als Nachschlagewerk für Mathematiker aus anderen Bereichen.

»Ich erinnere mich«: Dem mit dieser knappen Formel bezeichneten Paradigma des Erzählens kommt für die Literatur des ausgehenden 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts zentrale Bedeutung zu. Doch werden die einschlägigen Texte seit jeher, wenn auch unter höchst verschiedenen theoretischen Vorgaben, auf die hermeneutische Frage nach der poetischen Konstitution und Konstruktion des Subjekts hin untersucht. Die tieferen Fundamente des narrativen Arrangements »Anamnesis« treten aber erst dann zutage, wenn die Doppelung von erzähltem und erzählendem Ich als Funktion der literarischen Erinnerungsarbeit begriffen wird. Diese Arbeit setzt - diesseits von Wahrnehmungen oder platonischen Ideen, authentischen Erfahrungen oder Unbewußtem - ein Bildarchiv voraus, das die Pathosformeln aus den großen mythologischen und christologischen Initiationserzählungen, aus Christus-, Marien-, Heiligen- und Venusikonographie enthält. Im Rückgriff auf topisch strukturierte Modelle kultureller Wissensorganisation und -abbildung dienen die vielen kleinen Szenen und Episoden, aus denen die Erzähler in Moritz' »Anton Reiser«, Kellers »Grünem Heinrich« und Raabes »Akten des Vogelsangs« die Lebensgeschichten der Helden zusammenfügen, dem Entwurf weit angelegter Gedenkräume. So erweist sich die rhetorische Tradition der Memoria in den Texten geradezu als übermächtig, wird sie doch zugleich die Grundlage einer jeweils eigenständigen ästhetischen Figuration. Aus der Analyse des Widerspiels von Hermeneutik und Rhetorik, von individueller Erinnerung und kollektivem Gedächtnis folgt nicht zuletzt, daß die Prämissen, unter denen das Konzept einer »modernen« Erinnerung bislang verhandelt wurde, einer Revision bedürfen.

Die Studie widmet sich erstmals systematisch dem Konnex zwischen Poesie und Geschichte, der in Jean Pauls Romanen, aber auch in seiner Ästhetik allgegenwärtig ist. Die Weltgeschichte gilt ihm als eine "Epopoe" Gottes, doch bis zu ihrem Ende bleibt sie ein "unvollendeter Roman". Die Untersuchung analysiert den Unsterblichkeitsdiskurs, die totalisierende Rolle der Einbildungskraft, den Gattungsdiskurs um 1800 (Friedrich und August Wilhelm Schlegel, Goethe, Schiller, Herder, Schelling) sowie die geschichtsphilosophische Diskussion (Herder, Jacobi, Fichte) und erarbeitet in diesem Kontext eine Semantik der Zeit- und Geschichtsbegriffe Jean Pauls.

Der manichäische Gegensatz von Zeit und Zeitlosigkeit fällt für Jean Paul (1763-1825) mit dem Gattungsdualismus von Drama und Epos zusammen. Dabei erweist sich das Epos in geschichts- und stiltypologischer Perspektive als Modell zeittranszendierender Totalität, es wird zur Leitmetapher einer in sich erfüllten Geschichte. Jean Pauls epistemologische Kritik an Herders Geschichtsteleologie, der Gleichsetzung von mechanistischer Natur- und kontingenter Menschheitsgeschichte, läßt jedoch erkennen, daß die reale Historie für ihn auf unabsehbare Zeit ein "dramatischer" Roman bleibt. In seinen Romanwelten sucht er den Zustand einer nicht-defizitären Zeit poetisch zu antizipieren. In drei Einzelinterpretationen - "Hesperus", "Titan", "Flegeljahre" - beschreibt Ralf Berhorst den konstruktiven Aufwand, mit dem Jean Paul das Ideal einer in sich totalen, einer "epischen" Zeit in die Form des modernen Romans hinüberretten will.

A few years before his death in 2009, Anant Raje had begun to assemble a draft of his works – published and unpublished. The present book is inspired by that draft, which remained unfinished. Raje's meticulous documentation of the process of thoughts that gave direction to design and of the development of construction details, and the eventual record of the building form an elaborate archive. The collection of photographs, drawings and notes provides clues to the many fundamental problems and situations he constantly wrestled with. To monitor, sift and make a selection from such an archive is perhaps the only way of providing the first point of public contact with the very private, very varied and fulfilled life of someone who treated the profession of architecture as a personal discovery.

Anant Raje Architect: Selected Works 1971–2009 features over thirty projects that Raje had assembled into a skeletal draft – of both built and unbuilt works, and competition entries. Each project is extensively illustrated with photographs, models, drawings, sketches and reflections by the architect, many of which are previously unpublished. These have been selected and assembled from Raje's office archives, diaries, interviews, publications and lecture transcriptions. The book includes essays by Raje on his seminal association with Louis Kahn in Philadelphia and the subsequent continuation of his work at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad, as well as reflections on his independent practice, methods, sources, and inspirations. It also contains a chronological listing of all his projects, and of his lectures and teaching assignments. As a whole, the material in the book presents the architect both at work and in reflection of it. For the many who knew him, the book is a eulogy; for others, it is a record of a working life.

This book covers anaphora resolution for the English language from a linguistic and computational point of view.
First, a definition of anaphors that applies to linguistics as well as information technology is given. On this foundation, all types of anaphors and their characteristics for English are outlined. To examine how frequent each type of anaphor is, a corpus of different hypertexts has been established and analysed with regard to anaphors. The most frequent type are non-finite clause anaphors - a type which has never been investigated so far. Therefore, the potential of non-finite clause anaphors are further explored with respect to anaphora resolution. After presenting the fundamentals of computational anaphora resolution and its application in text retrieval, rules for resolving non-finite clause anaphors are established.
Therefore, this book shows that a truly interdisciplinary approach can achieve results which would not have been possible otherwise.

Domänengebundene Referenz (d.h. sprachliche Bezüge, die nur abhängig von Situationswissen interpretiert werden können) kann sowohl anaphorisch (im Text verweisend) als auch deiktisch (auf die außersprachliche Umgebung verweisend) sein - der Hörer weiß also nicht von vornherein, nach welcher Art von Referenten er zu suchen hat. Während Modelle zur Rezeption anaphorischer Referenz davon ausgehen, daß der Hörer schon von Beginn des Rezeptions-Prozesses an auf eine der beiden Referenzarten beschränkt ist, muß sich der Hörer in vielen alltagssprachlichen Situationen zwischen anaphorischen und deiktischen Lesarten (und damit zwischen verschiedenen referenz-relevanten Domänen) entscheiden. In der Arbeit werden - nach einer ausführlichen Diskussion der in die Antike reichenden Begriffsgeschichte - Anaphora und Deixis als nur graduell unterscheidbare Ausprägungen domänengebundener Referenz in einem einheitlichen Klassifikationsmodell beschrieben, das von Art und Grad der Verankerung domänengebundener Ausdrücke konstituiert wird. While there have been historical accounts of the anarchist school movement, there has been no systematic work on the philosophical underpinnings of anarchist educational ideas—until now.

Anarchism and Education offers a philosophical account of the neglected tradition of anarchist thought on education. Although few anarchist thinkers wrote systematically on education, this analysis is based largely on a reconstruction of the educational thought of anarchist thinkers gleaned from their various ethical, philosophical and popular writings. Primarily drawing on the work of the nineteenth century anarchist theorists such as Bakunin, Kropotkin, and Proudhon, the book also covers twentieth century anarchist thinkers such as Noam Chomsky, Paul Goodman, Daniel Guerin, and Colin Ward.

This original work will interest philosophers of education and educationalist thinkers as well as those with a general interest in anarchism.

Stephen Condit begins ‘Anarchism in Local Governance’ arguing that anarchism and anarchists must engage with the ruling order in a more inclusive manner than radical opposition, at least in the environment of a stable and cautious welfare society like Finland. This encounter may enlarge the purposes and values of municipal governance towards some of the fundamental values of anarchism, primarily individual and communal self-governance, and as well develop anarchist thought and praxis, not to renounce radical and non-conventional action, but to enlarge its scope and opportunities by strengthening the legitimacy of anarchist values and praxis, and their practical relevance to the social order.

The discussion entails three intertwined discourses: anarchist thought in philosophical and theoretical terms with an emphasis on the possibilities of its praxis; a descriptive examination of municipal governance through its organisations, strategies and policies; and a rather anecdotal account of Condit’s 30-year career in attempting to combine these dimensions of anarchism, municipal governance and citizen participation in civil society. The counterfactual ideal of Bookchin's libertarian municipalism is a significant measure of evaluation.

Condit’s self-assessment is equivocal. He failed to instil much practical anarchism into the municipality and possibly diluted his own demonstration of anarchism beyond what most anarchists would accept. Nevertheless he considers his project justified because it has clarified potentialities for the municipality, citizen associations and anarchism, and because it may express in more coherent conceptual and ethical form significant emerging trends in Western society.
