Weite Teile mittelalterlichen Erzählens gelten aufgrund ihrer mythischen, christlichen oder historischen Perspektivierung in besonderer Weise als anfangs- und endfixiert. Der Band verfolgt die Kategorien Anfang und Ende in ihren narratologischen, kulturellen und anthropologischen Dimensionen. Ob Subjekte, Kollektive oder die Geschichte insgesamt, sie alle werden epochenspezifischen Kausalitäten und Finalitäten unterworfen. Die literaturwissenschaftlichen Beiträge werden durch kulturwissenschaftliche und historische Arbeiten ergänzt, um die Fragestellung - diachron und synchron - in ihren kulturellen Kontexten zu verorten. Sie untersuchen das Verhältnis von Erzählstrukturen und kulturellen Narrativen, von historisch wirkungsmächtigen Sinnbildungsmustern sowie das Spektrum konkreter Erzählformen, in denen Kausalität und Finalität auf unterschiedliche Art modelliert werden.

Die Frage nach dem Ursprung hat die Menschen in allen Kulturen und Epochen beschäftigt. In besonderer Weise bestimmt sie das Denken der Philosophie, das nach klassischem Verständnis der Erforschung der ersten Ursachen und Prinzipien gilt. Es schließt darin an die Fragerichtung des Mythos an, der seinerseits von ersten Anfängen und Gründen berichtet. Auch außerhalb der Philosophie, in Wissenschaften, Weltbildern und Religionen, in Theorien der Natur und der Geschichte, bilden Vorstellungen vom Ursprung in vielfachen Abwandlungen Leitideen des Fragens und der Orientierung. Die Frage nach dem Ursprung ist nicht auf eine Frage zu reduzieren und nicht durch eine Auskunft zu beantworten. Sie gehört in den Kreis jener offenen Fragen, die das Denken nach Kant nicht beantworten, aber ebenso wenig abweisen kann. Die vorliegenden Aufsätze bieten Diskussionsmaterial zur Heterogenität der Fragestellungen und reflektieren das Spannungsverhältnis, das dem Ursprungsbezug insgesamt innewohnt.

Das Buch liefert eine grundlegende Einführung in die Theorien der maßgeblichen Begründer der 'New Rhetoric', vertreten durch Ivor A. Richards, die Vertreter der Allgemeinen Semantik, Richard M. Weaver und Kenneth Burke. Der Autor skizziert Grundzüge und macht dabei auf einen Impuls aufmerksam, der die 'New Rhetoric' in der Anfangszeit übereinstimmend kennzeichnet und welcher die Entwicklung der Rhetorik als akademische Disziplin in den USA beeinflußte.

Die These: Wesentlicher Bestandteil dieser Theorien ist der Leitgedanke, für die Rhetorik den Anspruch auf den Status einer Grundwissenschaft zu artikulieren und geltend zu machen. Dieser Anspruch wird aus zwei miteinander verbundenen Gesichtspunkten hergeleitet: 1. Sprache dient vorrangig einer sozialen Funktion, die sich in rhetorischer Praxis manifestiert. Rhetorik ist entsprechend ein gesellschaftlich ubiquitäres Prinzip. 2. Die Fähigkeiten des Denkens, Redens und Verstehens sind als unauflöslicher Bedeutungs- und Wirkungszusammenhang zu verstehen und demnach in einer Theorie zu erarbeiten, die an sprachlich bedingter Wirkung interessiert ist. Mit diesem Verständnis wird das Bild von der Rhetorik als einer generativ ausgerichteten Lehre durch das Erarbeiten und Hervorheben ihres kritisch-rezeptiven Instrumentariums und Potentials ergänzt. Rhetorik - als Kunst der wirkungsvollen Rede rezipiert - wird auch explizit als Kunst des Denkens und Verstehens vermittelt. Dieses übereinstimmende Merkmal macht der Autor anhand folgender Fragestellungen deutlich: Welches Menschen- und Gesellschaftsbild wird gezeichnet? Wie wird Sprache und deren Bedeutung charakterisiert? Welches ontologische und epistemologische Verständnis dient als Grundlage? Welche Funktion wird der Rhetorik im individuellen und gesellschaftlichen Bereich zugeschrieben?

Gerade heute, wo sich die Aufmerksamkeit der führenden Philosophen, Logiker und Mathematiker erneut auf die Grundlagen der systematisch-deduktiven Mathematik richtet, ist dieses Buch von zeitnaher und tiefer Bedeutung.

2016 Neue Herausgeberschaft

Die nicht zu Unrecht legendär genannte Schriftenreihe zu Geschichte und Theorie von Architektur und Städtebau wurde 1963 von Ulrich Conrads gegründet und seit den frühen 1980er Jahren zusammen mit Peter Neitzke herausgegeben. Sie ist mit inzwischen über 150 Bänden die umfangreichste deutschsprachige Buchreihe zu diesen Themen. Mit dem Tod der beiden langjährigen Herausgeber Ulrich Conrads (2013) und Peter Neitzke (2015) hat ein neues HerausgeberInnengremium seine Arbeit aufgenommen: Elisabeth Blum, Jesko Fezer, Günther Fischer, Angelika Schnell. Als künftige HerausgeberInnen versuchen wir auf Kurs zu bleiben.

Die ursprüngliche Zielsetzung der Reihe, eine Bestandsaufnahme der baulichen und städtebaulichen Ideen und Realisierungen des 20. Jahrhunderts zu leisten, wurde bereits in herausragender Weise erfüllt. Die Bauwelt Fundamente repräsentieren geradezu die Ideengeschichte des Planens und Bauens jener Zeit bis in die Gegenwart hinein. Diese gilt es in die Zukunft hinein fortzuschreiben.

In gleicher Weise besteht der zweite, direkt im Namen verankerte Anspruch der Reihe unvermindert fort: nicht Tagesmeinungen, sondern Fundamente – Verbindliches und Grundlegendes – aber auch Thesen- und Streitschriften zu den brennenden architektonischen und städtebaulichen Themen der Zeit zu veröffentlichen. Komplexe Zusammenhänge zu durchdringen und probeweise einzuordnen bildet die Voraussetzung fruchtbarer Diskurse und zukunftsfähiger Auseinandersetzungen.

Die Bauwelt Fundamente-Reihe legt als Forum solcher Diskurse und Beiträge ihren Fokus unvermindert auf die Bereiche Architektur und Urbanismus, ergänzt durch die immer notwendige historische Aufarbeitung wichtiger Fragen und Texte und den Blick darüber hinaus in andere kulturelle und gesellschaftliche Gefilde. Eine stärker internationale Ausrichtung und der Wunsch nach mehr Autorinnen sind hierbei selbstverständlich.

Die grafische Gestaltung der Reihe von Helmut Lortz wird in Bezug auf seine ursprünglichen Anliegen beibehalten: Wie sich das für eine Arbeitsbücherei gehört, bleiben die Bauwelt Fundamente einfach ausgestattet: Schwarz/weiß das Signet sowie die Bildmotive von Vorder- und Rückseite und der 11-Zeiler mit konzentrierter Information zum Inhalt. Damit wenden sich die Bauwelt Fundamente auch weiterhin an alle, die Anteil nehmen an der kulturellen und gesellschaftlichen Entwicklung, in deren Kontext Städte, Häuser und Dinge entstehen und die wiederum Kontexte schaffen für die Welt. „Architekten hätten sich, heißt es – oder hofft man – immer schon, über die Grenzen ihres Berufs hinaus, für die Welt interessiert." Die hier erstmals veröffentlichten geheimen Gespräche, Beratungen und Notizen Chruschtschows in der ersten Phase der von ihm initiierten Berlin-Krise zeigen einen von persönlichen Vorstellungen und starken Emotionen bestimmten Politiker, der auf unbedingte Konfrontation zum Westen setzt. In den letzten Jahren sind vermehrt Fälle bekannt geworden, in denen Wertpapiergeschäfte zu nicht marktgerechten Preisen geschlossen wurden, sogenannte Mistrades. In das öffentliche Interesse gerückt sind spektakuläre Mistrades mit hohen Schadensvolumina und drastischen Kursbeeinflussungen wie der Einbruch im US-amerikanischen Wertpapiermarkt im Jahr 2010 oder an der Eurex im Jahr 2001. Mistrades mit weniger weitreichenden Folgen kommen, vor allem im außerbörslichen Direkthandel, nahezu täglich vor.

In der Praxis wurden Mistrades bislang fast ausschließlich nach speziellen Mistrade-Regeln rückabgewickelt. Diese sind allerdings Bedenken hinsichtlich ihrer Wirksamkeit ausgesetzt und umfassen zudem nicht alle Ursachen von Mistrades. In der Monographie werden daher erstmals die Anfechtungsrechte, die den Beteiligten bei einem Mistrade zustehen, untersucht.

Selbst längst ein Standardwerk, beschränkt es sich bewusst nicht auf die großen Meister: bildende Künstler aus aller Welt und aus allen Zeiten, von der Antike bis zur Gegenwart, werden aufgenommen. Politia litteraria meint dabei weniger "sprachlich-literarischer Zirkel" als vielmehr "Verfeinerung des (lateinischen) Ausdrucks". Die bisherigen Ausgaben waren entweder nur schwer zugänglich (Codex Vat. Lat. 1794) oder lückenhaft (Druckausgabe Basel 1562) und äußerst verderbt (Druckausgabe Augsburg 1540). Die neuere Ausgabe bietet die gesamte Tradition. In der Einführung in das Werk wird u.a. deutlich, dass zwischen einem ursprünglichen Text (Codex Vat. Lat. 1794) und einem - vom Autor selbst - revidierten Text (Augsburg 1540, Basel 1562) unterschieden werden muß. Ein Registerteil erleichtert die praktische Arbeit mit dem Werk.
