This volume is the proceedings of the conference on Automorphic Representations, L-functions and Applications: Progress and Prospects, held at the Department of Mathematics of The Ohio State University, March 27–30, 2003, in honor of the 60th birthday of Steve Rallis.

The theory of automorphic representations, automorphic L-functions and their applications to arithmetic continues to be an area of vigorous and fruitful research. The contributed papers in this volume represent many of the most recent developments and directions, including

Die Frage, die der Band beantwortet, gilt dem Verhältnis von Wille und Willkür bei Kant: Weshalb muss sich der eine Begriff des freien Willens in zwei Formen der Freiheit teilen – in die Freiheit der Autonomie auf der einen Seite und die Freiheit der Willkür auf der anderen? Beide Freiheiten stehen nicht in einem Verhältnis der einfachen Ergänzung, sondern gehören unterschiedlichen Ordnungen an: Der Wille als Vermögen der vernünftigen Selbstbestimmung beschreibt eine normative Ordnung, während die Willkür als Kraft eigensinniger Entschiedenheit gerade eine Freiheit von normativen und faktischen Bestimmungen in Anspruch nimmt. Wie ist das Verhältnis dieser beiden Dimensionen und damit zuletzt die Einheit des Willens zu begreifen? Um diese Einheit denken zu können, so das Argument, müssen wir den eigentümlichen Akt verstehen, durch den ein endliches Subjekt das Gesetz seiner Vernunft zum Gesetz seines besonderen, subjektiven Willens macht. Ohne ein Moment von Willkür lässt sich dieser Akt und mithin die Wirklichkeit der Freiheit nicht verstehen. Der Gedanke der notwendigen Einheit von Autonomie und Willkür dient dem Band so als Leitmotiv für eine grundlegende Neubestimmung von Kants Theorie der Freiheit.

Navigation and path planning are essential technologies for increasing the productivity of agriculture machine systems performing modern precision agriculture tasks. Production agriculture requires efficient methods for complete coverage of agricultural landscapes to complete the critical production steps of preparing the land and planting, managing, and harvesting crops. To help farmers to make the transformation from automated to autonomous systems requires approaches that can leverage the current automation advances from modern precision agricultural machinery and build on them as tools in the development and deployment of agricultural robots. This chapter provides a high-level overview of critical elements in autonomous navigation and path planning and discusses the opportunities and challenges related to building on precision agriculture technologies to enable productive agricultural robots.

This is the first study to examine the individual-dividual debate empirically from the - emic - perspective of decision making, observed over a two-year period among the Bakkarwal, Himalayan Muslim pastoralists. Of particular significance is the fact that the author bases her approach on the life cycle and on gender and status differences.

Following the Zapatista uprising on New Year’s Day 1994, the EZLN communities of Chiapas began the slow process of creating a system of autonomous government that would bring their call for freedom, justice, and democracy from word to reality. Die Studie gibt erstmals ethnografische Einblicke in die körperlich-materielle Praxis hinter den expliziten Bildern und analysiert die komplexen Wechselwirkungen zwischen Körpern und Körperbildern, Medientechnologien und Männlichkeitsidealen, die aus alltäglichen Normalkörpern pornografische „Körper zur Ansicht“ machen, die sich online selbst veröffentlichen.

Für die Untersuchung machte sich der Autor selbst zum Teilnehmer und untersuchte die Medienpraktiken schwuler Männer in der Cammingcommunity, für deren Mitglieder der erotische Bildertausch eine Form medienvermittelter Sexualität ist. Die Studie analysiert mikrosoziologisch die Interaktionslogik dieser Praktiken und betrachtet gendersoziologisch die Konstruktion von Männlichkeiten mit Bildmedien.

Darüber hinaus verfolgt die Studie das Ziel, körper- und mediensoziologische Fragestellungen zusammenzudenken. Sie zeigt, wie der Körper in autopornografischen Praktiken selbst zu einem Medium gemacht wird, indem seine Medialität und Materialität moduliert werden. During the publication event of her biography, the former Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, stated that she refused to actively advance the Ukrainian NATO membership because there was an example of a successful, non-aligned Russian neighbor in Europe. The country was Finland, widely recognized for her staunch support for Ukraine after the Russian invasion in February 2022.
However, this is not the whole story.
Certainly, soon after the invasion, Helsinki decided to join NATO—breaking the tradition of a bilateral »special relationship« with Russia, originally stemming from a traumatic Cold War history of forced appeasement. During the Soviet era, Finland had been treated by the KGB as an »experimental laboratory« for different forms of political, economic, military, intelligence, and informational coercion.
Not only did the Soviets learn and test new strategies. Especially after the collapse of the USSR, Finland and Finnish »friends« were used to promote Russian strategic interests within the European Union. The roots of »Schröderization«, the Nord Stream pipeline, and the EU citizenship of Vladimir Putin’s closest oligarchs can be traced to Helsinki.
During the era of transatlantic turmoil and new power politics, it is essential to understand the depth and methods of the Russian influence activities in Europe. This book illustrates them holistically by focusing on the Finnish example, not forgetting wider geopolitical contextualization, e.g. implications for Ukraine, debate on European strategic autonomy, and continental memory politics.

Vom 22. bis 25. Februar 2006 fand die Tagung zum Thema „Autoren und Redaktoren als Editoren“ in Weimar statt. Da die Arbeitsgemeinschaft an einem wissenschaftlichen Diskurs auch jenseits der Germanistik interessiert ist, wurden zusätzlich Editoren aus der Musikwissenschaft und der Philosophiegeschichte eingeladen. Die Tagungsbeiträge sind im vorliegenden Band gesammelt. Einen Schwerpunkt bilden Beiträge zur germanistischen Edition vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart, einen zweiten Beiträge aus der Musikwissenschaft. Im einzelnen werden spezielle Probleme anhand laufender Editionsprojekte erörtert wie auch Modelle von Editionen, die sich erst in der Vorbereitung befinden. Zugleich werden theoretische Aspekte des Rahmenthemas zur Diskussion gestellt, sodass der Band insgesamt eine verlässliche Orientierung über die aktuelle Situation in Editionstheorie und -praxis bereithält.

Die Arbeit analysiert und beschreibt erstmalig Rezeptionsmechanismen von Theatertexten mit Blick auf die „konkrete Arbeit am Text“. Aufgrund der Tatsache, dass Arbeiten zur linguistischen Rezeptionsanalyse allgemein bislang von der Suche nach Senderintentionen oder dem Versuch des Nachvollziehens der Interpretationsleistung des Empfängers geprägt waren, bzw. es immer noch sind, ist dafür ein stärker textorientiertes Vorgehen mit der Zielstellung gewählt worden: 1) die „produktionsorientierte“ Textlinguistik gegen eine stärker rezeptionsorientierte, dabei aber eine am realen Text verbleibende einzutauschen; 2) eine Möglichkeit zu finden, Rezeptionsprozesse auf einer sprachlichen, also fassbaren Ebene, zu beschreiben. Durch die Analyse der veränderten textuellen Strukturen konnten Aussagen über den Rezeptionsprozess konkretisiert werden. Ergebnis der Arbeit ist, dass gewisse textuelle Strukturen oder Eigenschaften (Junktionen, die textuelle Kohärenz, die Thema-Rhema-Struktur) stärker als andere von Transformationen betroffen sind. Sie scheinen Entscheidungs- oder Schnittstellen zu sein, an denen der Rezipient, wenn er die Möglichkeit zur Veränderung des rezipierten Textes und zu dessen Weitergabe hat, bevorzugt ansetzt, um den Text »in seiner Effizienz zu steigern«.

Die Überlieferung der Sprüche Freidanks zeigt sich vielgestaltig: Freidank-Sprüche werden vom 14. bis ins 17. Jahrhundert überliefert in Spruchsammlungen, Predigten und Rechtstexten, in Familienbüchern und monastischen Handschriften; zusätzlich treten sie als Inschriften verschiedenster Form auf.

Aus diesem großen Bestand an Überlieferungsmaterial lässt sich ein kohärentes Freidankbild abstrahieren, wie es Bestandteil des kulturellen Gedächtnisses der Zeit gewesen sein muss: Freidank wird als Autorität behandelt, die auf gleicher Ebene wie weitere Referenzfiguren (die Kirchenväter, biblische Figuren, antike Autoren) ihren Platz innerhalb eines anerkannten Legitimationssystems hat. Als feste Bedeutungsbestandteile sind mit dieser Instanz "Freidank" die Qualitäten der Wahrheit und Gottgefälligkeit assoziiert. Umgekehrt wird innerhalb dieses kulturellen Systems die Chiffre "Freidank" als fiktive Urheberinstanz auch benutzt, um eben diese Qualitäten auf neue Inhalte zu übertragen - eine eigene Textgattung von "Freidanken" - lehrhafte Spruchdichtung mit hohem Wahrheitsanspruch - entsteht.

Ähnliche Prozesse der Konstruktion eines Autorprofils im kulturellen Gedächtnis lassen sich vergleichend bei der Rezeption Wolframs von Eschenbach und Neidharts feststellen. Auch hier existieren Autorenbilder, die den Rezipienten der Werke bekannt waren und die spätere Deutung beeinflusst haben.

Die Beiträge dieses Bandes sind an der Schnittstelle zwischen Kirchen- und Geistesgeschichte anzusiedeln. Während sich im hohen und späten Mittelalter autoritative Instanzen vervielfachen, mit den magistri an den Universitäten neue theologische Kompetenzen heranwachsen, aber auch mit den neuen charismatischen Führern, Propheten und Mystikern den alten Autoritäten Konkurrenz erwächst, entsteht für das kirchliche Establishment, insonderheit das Papsttum, Rechtfertigungsdruck. Jede Autorität hat einen Wahrheitsanspruch. Die Frage nach dem Wesen der Wahrheit muss neu gestellt, die Dialektik von Autorität und Wahrheit neu überdacht werden. Der im Gesamtzusammenhang des Pentateuchs hervorstechende gottesrechtliche Zuschnitt alttestamentlichen Rechts bildet keineswegs die einzige prägende Begründung der Gesetze. Ausgehend von dieser Beobachtung untersucht die vorliegende Arbeit anhand des Bundesbuches die Frage, wie alttestamentliches Recht begründet und autorisiert wird.

Konstruktionen von Autorschaft im mittelalterlichen epischen Text lassen sich über den Autornamen und seinen sprachlichen Kontext in ihrer historischen Entwicklung beschreiben. Mit Blick darauf, dass die Handschriften als sekundäre Zeugnisse eine eigene Entwicklung im Umgang mit dem Autornamen belegen, kann eine Analyse der namentlichen Autorzuschreibungen im Text die sprachlichen Möglichkeiten terminologisch erfassen und idealtypisch beschreiben. In Vergleich und Abgrenzung zur französischen Literatur sind für die mittelalterliche deutsche Literatur Diskurstypen zur Thematisierung von Autorschaft, die sich schon in der frühmittelhochdeutschen Literatur etablieren, als eigenständige zu kennzeichnen. Den konventionellen Diskurstypen, z.B. mit tihten, stehen im 12. und 13. Jh. wiederum individuelle Autorinszenierungen gegenüber, die im Kontext einer imaginierten Werkgenese die Verfasserpräsenz im Text etablieren. Fallstudien stellen diese mit ihrer je eigenen sprachlichen Konzeption und Autorrepräsentation vor und zeigen zugleich eine den Kontext des mündlichen Vortrags bevorzugende Konstituierung von Autorschaft.

Hamanns Autorschaft ist stark auf die Rezipienten ausgerichtet. Seine ausgeprägte Dialogizität wird in Untersuchungen zur Intertextualität, zu Briefgesprächen, Metaphorizität und Rhetorizität exemplarisch an drei Werken (Versuch einer Sibylle über die Ehe, Konxompax und Schürze von Feigenblättern) nachgewiesen. Dabei ist Hamann zentral durch den Kondeszendenzgedanken beeinflusst: So wie sich Gott in Natur, Geschichte und Schrift offenbart, um eine Beziehung zum Menschen zu ermöglichen, will auch Hamann mit seinen Zeitgenossen in einen Dialog treten.

Dieser literaturwissenschaftliche Sammelband geht von der allgemeinen Beobachtung aus, dass im Zeitalter des «digitalen Autors» die von der strukturalistischen und poststrukturalistischen Theoriebildung vorgebrachte Forderung nach dem «Tod des Autors» von der unaufhaltsamen, unkontrollierbaren «Auflösung des Autors» samt seiner Autorität über den eigenen Text überholt zu werden scheint. Diese Tendenz hat dazu beigetragen, dass der Autorschaftsdebatte – initiiert durch deren Wiederaufnahme auf neugermanistischer Seite – in den vergangenen Jahren verstärkt erneut auch die Aufmerksamkeit der altgermanistischen und mediolatinistischen Forschung, der Editionsphilologie wie der Rechtsgeschichte zuteil geworden ist.

Diesem sich neu eröffnenden Diskursrahmen trägt der Sammelband nun erstmals auch in romanistischer Perspektive Rechnung, indem seine Beiträge danach fragen, unter welchen Voraussetzungen, in welchen Kontexten, mit welchen Verfahren und in welchen Funktionszusammenhängen sich «Autorschaft» in den romanischen Literaturen des Mittelalters konstituiert. Im Zentrum der Untersuchungen steht dabei weniger der bereits gut erforschte Status des «Autors» an sich als vielmehr die für die Mittelalterforschung inzwischen zentrale Frage nach Verfahren und Mustern der Begründung von Autorschaft. Diese Fokussierung beruht auf der Annahme, dass die mittelalterliche Literatur grundsätzlich auf normative Konzepte referiert, deren exemplarischer Gültigkeitsnachweis den einzelnen Text wesentlich legitimiert. Autorität gewinnen die Texte dabei in der Regel durch Strategien autoritativer Absicherung – etwa durch den Bezug auf vorbildliche auctores, auf institutionelle Machtfaktoren sowie durch Strategien der Selbst-Authentifizierung.

Als Beitrag zur weiteren Systematisierung und Ausdifferenzierung der literaturwissenschaftlichen Hermeneutik fragt die Studie nach der Rolle des Autors und der Autorintentionen für die Interpretation literarischer Texte, um zu zeigen, dass hinter der Problematisierung des Autors in vielen Fällen die Problematisierung der Interpretation von Texten überhaupt steht. Zu diesem Zweck werden die zentralen literaturtheoretischen Positionen der Autorschaftsdebatte kritisch rekonstruiert, in ihrem argumentationslogischen Aufbau analysiert und in einen übergreifenden Diskussionszusammenhang gestellt. Zwei hermeneutische Phänomene, die als Minimalfunktionen philologischer Autorschaft gelten können, sind das Ergebnis der anschließenden Untersuchung: Der Rückgriff auf den Autor erweist sich immer dort als notwendig, wo Historizität und Normkonformität literarischer Artefakte im hermeneutischen Prozess eine Rolle spielen. Dies gilt sowohl für die hermeneutische Beschäftigung mit Literatur wie mit Texten der Geistesgeschichte.
