10,000 Knitted Hats is a fun and clever flip-page instruction book for designing and building your own unique headwear creations.

This interactive knitting book contains photographs of different hat brims, bodies and crowns that can be combined in a total of 10,626 ways to create unique hat patterns. Once you’ve chosen your design, turn over the pages for the correct written pattern for that combination of parts. You can then use the handy embellishments section to add any extra features to the basic design.

The hat brims, bodies and crowns use many stitches, some familiar and others new. Find colour work, both easy and more challenging, along with slipped-stitch patterns, cables, lace and texture, all explained clearly in the handy techniques section. Aimed at all ability levels, there is something for everyone. You’ll never need another hat book!

10,000 Knitted Hats by Jo Allport is an interactive knitting book that guides knitters in using their own creativity to design a variety of unique hats. Instead of just a selection of hat patterns, Allport has divided hat construction into its three main components—brims, bodies, and crowns—and provided a selection of stitch pattern instructions for each part that knitters can use to create their own mix-and-match hat patterns…..

What makes this book truly unique is the flip-page style: the main section of the book is a flip-page style book, with the 23 full-size pages cut into thirds. The bottom third includes a variety of brim options, the middle third contains options for the body of the hat, and the top third includes options for crown shaping…..

Each of the mix-and-match pages includes all the information necessary for knitting that part of the hat. All the pattern components are worked flat and use the same DK weight yarn (Rico Design Essentials Merino DK) and come in three adult sizes (18.5”, 21”, and 23”)…..

The 80-page book measures 9”x 10.5” and is nice and sturdy, with a hardcover and concealed wire binding so it lies perfectly flat when it’s opened. It’s filled with full-color photographs for each of the hat components, some completed hats, and plenty of helpful technique photos. 10,000 Knitted Hats is a perfect book for hat knitters who love mix-and-match patterns or are looking for pattern inspiration (which you are sure to find in this book!).

“What a perfect book for hat lovers. It is really easy to use and the knitter can have great fun choosing their mix and match patterns... I like the fact that you can use any DK yarn that matches the tension - a great opportunity to use stash for some of the projects. The patterns give you the opportunity to try out different stitches, lace, cable, textured to name a few. The photographs really help to make your decision. The hats are all for adults and the cast on sts are the same except for the cable sideways brim. Have fun flicking through photos until you find your favourite.” — Monica Russel
