A Companion to Medieval and Early Modern Seville gathers scholarship on the growth and evolution of the city of Seville from the early medieval to the early modern periods. It documents over a thousand years of Seville’s political, religious, literary, and material culture under Visigothic, Umayyad, Abbadid, Almoravid, Almohad, Castilian, and Hapsburg rulers. Thematic contributions by over two dozen authors survey the city’s many periods through archaeology, architecture, literary and religious studies, and legal and economic history. This volume is the first English-language overview of the history of Seville and offers a useful foundation for students and scholars of medieval and early modern Iberia and its links across the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.
