This book provides the first comprehensive grammatical description of Kriol, also known as Ginensi, a Portuguese-related creole. Kriol is the majority language as well as the lingua franca in Guinea-Bissau. Also spoken in the diaspora, it is genetically related to the Upper Guinea creoles (Capeverdean, Casamancese, and - arguably - Papiamentu). This volume provides a description of Kriol grammar, along with a historical perspective on its emergence and an overview of its intralinguistic variation. A table of the consultants' profiles, a selection of glossed texts, a bilingual Kriol-English wordlist, and a list of ideophones are included in this book, which aims to represent a crucial step in the description and documentation of Kriol.
