The seventh title in this ingenious series of Sherlock Holmes Escape Books, The Adventure of the Pharaoh’s Tomb is an exhilarating combination of escape room, puzzle book and adventure story. Readers will take on the role of the world’s foremost consulting detective, Sherlock Holmes, as he embarks on a journey full of twists and turns.
The book is set 1892, when Holmes was in hiding after apparently falling to his death at the Reichenbach Falls the previous year. Near Khartoum, Holmes is contacted by his brother, Mycroft, who is concerned about the disappearance of a young archaeologist, Howard Carter.
While helping to survey and excavate the ancient Egyptian city of Amarna, Carter had noticed that some of the most fascinating and valuable items were vanishing. He uncovered a plot to steal the treasures from under the noses of the authorities. To thwart it, he took some of the most important pieces into his own possession, and fled with them into the depths of the Royal Tombs.
Can you, as Sherlock Holmes, find a way into the heart of the tomb complex that nobody else knows about? You’ve already picked up hints from locals that there may be another secret way in and out. If you can find it and get Carter to safety before the villains force their way in, all may not be lost.
Puzzles include:
- Riddles
- Logic Problems
- Word Games
- Mathematical Brainteasers
- Maps and Mazes.
Praise for The Sherlock Holmes Escape Book: Adventure of the London Waterworks
"The book is very nicely produced with plenty of helpful illustrations. Its clever design incorporates a ‘code wheel’ in the front cover, which is put to use throughout the escape exercise. There are puzzles, mazes, brain-teasers, riddles, references to the original Sherlock Holmes stories and mathematical problems that provide the code to guide you along the correct path – plus some red herrings. In some cases, if you get it wrong the first time, you receive a second chance to redeem yourself. If you really get stuck, there are hints provided to help you get back on track. And fret not – the solutions are given at the back of the book." —The District Messenger (The Newsletter of the Sherlock Holmes Society of London)
Praise for The Sherlock Holmes Escape Book: The Adventure of the Analytical Engine
"This is a very attractive book… What makes the book quite pleasing to Sherlock Holmes aficionados is that the story is slotted neatly into the sequence of original Holmes stories… It is clear that a great deal of thought has gone not only into the puzzles but also into the storyline, which is genuinely intriguing, and more than just a framing device. … As I hope this review makes clear, I really enjoyed working through this book, and I recommend it highly." —Christopher D.
