Not all our families are the same, but all our families are awesome! This frank and funny celebration of diverse family structures is told naturally through a playground conversation.
A group of children want to play Families, but they can't decide how: all their families are different. Excitedly, the children share what their families look like: playing with noisy siblings, or having toys to themselves; families with two busy working moms or those with a dad and no mom; children who live with their grandparents or stepsiblings, and more.
The children are full of questions for each other – Do you miss your mom? How many houses do you have? Why don't you look like your parents? – and accepting of the answers. Because they understand there are so many different ways to be family!
'The dialogue feels realistically childlike and organic. As each child talks, a lovely full-color image of their family appears on the facing page. A playful primer on all things family.'—Kirkus Reviews
'This inclusive picture book embraces the diversity of family composition in an entertaining, comfortable format.'—School Library Journal
'Families and home life can look very different and this gentle picture book depicts it all. This is a lovely, engaging book full of love and joy!'—Youth Services Book Review
'A fantastic book to introduce children to the different families that exist and to begin conversations of what their families are like. It does a great job of highlighting how accepting children are of differences in families when their questions are answered.'—Adrien Carter, YA Books Central
'An adorable story about kids meeting and asking questions that come up all the time! The art was adorable, eye-catching, and perfect for the story being told.'—Kasi W, Mexico-Audrain County Library
