This book is the sequel to a first volume previously published in the Historical Materialism Book Series (A Failed Parricide. Hegel and the Young Marx). In this text, the ‘parricide’ of the Berlin master is effectively carried out, for Marx no longer confines himself to criticising and rejecting Hegel’s philosophy, but embraces his conception of science, whilst at the same time reshaping it in a wholly unique and original way. It is only through this path – not one of rejection, but of recognition and reworking – that Marx becomes his own father and writes a 'memoir of the future': the science of modernity as a system in which capital becomes universal and the general form of life.
