Conventional literary anthologies are often cost prohibitive and contain far more material than the average student needs for a given class, and first-time instructors teaching from anthologies may find the variety and quantity of material overwhelming. The purpose of this volume is to provide a curated set of abstracts from canonical texts significant to global anglophone modernisms and global modernities so that students might approach these significant literary and cultural movements more readily. Each excerpt is framed with a short introduction meant to get students up to speed before reading the primary text, and each section, divided by prose and poetry and by period, provides a similar short introduction. In addition to these excerpts, links to external web repositories are included that offer students the full text of significant literary documents for further reading or for courses that require more substantial engagement with one or more of the modernist texts in the reader. Through this more easily accessible format, and by the inclusion of the appendices and supplementary secondary readings, students might better approach the nuance and difficulty of the texts contained within the reader.
