This monograph provides an empirically based study of the morphological category of associated motion (AM) in the under-researched language Datooga (Southern Nilotic). Based on an outline of essential grammatical structures, it explores the ways the AM category interacts with the lexical meaning of the verbal root and with other verbal derivational categories such as directionals. Its merit resides in the contribution it makes to Nilotic linguistics on the one side and to the semantics of motion on the other side, fertilizing current typological debates by spelling out how existing typological frameworks may be expanded to accommodate the particular profile of the Datooga case.
