In a rapidly transforming global political landscape, the sources, forms, and legitimations of governance authority are increasingly pluralised and contested. This book offers an original and theoretically grounded framework for understanding these dynamics in contemporary global governance.
It introduces three analytical lenses - constellations, in/formalisation and contestation - to examine how governance authority is constituted, stabilised and challenged across diverse institutional settings. Drawing on case studies from sustainability, trade, human rights, migration, security, digital governance, health, regional governance, rule of law and religion, the volume develops a conceptual language for analysing authority amid shifting power relations, institutional complexity and normative conflict.
By advancing a critical perspective on how public interests are articulated and contested in global governance, the book makes a significant contribution to debates on legitimacy, accountability and democratic governance in a rapidly changing world order.
