Dan Oko is a Houston‑based environmental and adventure travel writer whose work has appeared in Texas Monthly, Adventure Journal, Outside, Texas Parks & Wildlife, Texas Highways, and Garden & Gun. Born in California and raised in New York City, he studied philosophy and creative writing in Michigan and began his reporting career in Seattle before settling in Texas in 1999, where he fell in love with the state’s wild places. Over the past two decades, he has mountain biked, hiked, backpacked, kayaked, and fished his way across the Lone Star State, blending his passion for the outdoors with a keen interest in conservation.
