This is a collection of 25 stories by 17 former Dutch New Guinea civil servants about their life and work in this remote area between 1945 and 1962. The majority of the articles read like hair-raising adventure stories and exciting tales of sometimes bizarre events—portraying the work of real frontiersmen, in fact. At the same time they paint a picture of the daily duties of these officials.
