Identify nearly 300 bird species of Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan—and discover how they live, behave, and change with the seasons.

Birds of the North Woods is more than an identification guide. Naturalist, photographer, and lifelong birder Sparky Stensaas combines practical field identification with fascinating natural history, helping readers not only put a name to the birds they see but also better understand them.

Designed specifically for the North Woods, this regional guide eliminates the frustration of sorting through hundreds of species that occur elsewhere in North America. More than 1,200 color photographs provide multiple views of many species, while an innovative, easy-to-use format helps make identification quick and intuitive. Red phenology bars show when each species can be found in the region, and information on habitat, nesting, courtship, and other behaviors adds depth to every sighting.

QR codes take the experience beyond the printed page, linking readers to videos of featured species in action. Watch birds fly, feed, preen, and more—all while learning what to look for in the field. Compact enough to bring along on cabin weekends, hikes, and other outdoor adventures, Birds of the North Woods is an invaluable companion for beginning birders and experienced enthusiasts alike.
