For thousands of years, people have been writing down the important occurrences in life. From the writing of the stories that make up the books of the Bible, to philosophers like Socrates and Aristotle all the way to pre-teen girls and housewives living in the Midwest, the act of writing things down has served as part history-keeping and part therapy. As Terri DeBoer wrote about in Brighter Skies Ahead, the transition into an Empty Nest marks a time when most people are often filled with feelings of sadness, grief, separation anxiety, boredom, lack of purpose, guilt, melancholy, which eventually turn to hope, optimism and fulfillment. These are significant emotions during a regular time of transition but are being intensified by the continuation of the Coronavirus pandemic. The journal follows the same themes as the 50-essays in Brighter Skies Ahead, nine separate journal sections that are broken down into multiple entry spaces for each of the corresponding chapters in each section.
