From Berlin via China and Brazil to Spain Berlin’s architecture is one of the most exciting aspects of its cultural heritage. Many of its buildings are internationally renowned, and year after year local architects design countless new projects in the capital and throughout Germany. Whether new constructions or building redevelopments, interior design, landscape architecture or urban planning, projects related to the German capital stand for sophisticated concepts and high quality. As it does every year "Building Berlin"presents the most important and interesting projects from the past year in Berlin. The presentation of the approximately 70 projects in eight chapters is accompanied by essays on exemplary aspects. Especially noteworthy is the analysis on the protection of buildings from the postwar years The contribution “XS Living“ looks at the different aspects of the current trend to live in the city on limited space and its consequences for residents, developers, designers and urban planners. Further texts deal with contemporary event locations between economic requirements, functional flexibility and the need to create always the desired atmosphere, and the use of expressionist elements in modern architecture.
