This collection of articles is selected from Blue Book of Chinese Society 2020, published in Chinese. Chapter One analyzes and forecasts China's social conditions from 2019 to 2020. Nineteen reports present China’s social conditions in 2019, including income and consumption, employment, social security, education, public health, the quality of social development, megacities, adolescent internet literacy, public concerns, business environment, and others. Findings are presented and analyzed from a number of social surveys on topics such as internet public opinion, food and drug safety, ecological environment, labor relations, poverty alleviation, and others. An overview of the statistics of China’s social development in 2019 is given in the last chapters.

Chen Guangjin is a Research Fellow and Director of the Institute of Sociology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Sociological Studies. His research focuses on rural sociology, social stratification and mobility, and the class of private entrepreneurs. Chen has published extensively on Chinese society, including and Pioneer in New Economic Fields: A Biography of Gary Becker.
Wang Chunguang is a Research Fellow, Vice Director General of the Institute of Sociology at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), and Chairman of the Rural Sociology Professional Committee of the Chinese Sociological Association. His research focuses on rural sociology, social policy, migration and migrant populations, social mobility, and poverty. Wang has published extensively on Chinese society, including Constructing Space: A Longitudinal Study of Immigrants from Wenzhou in Paris.
