How did Arabic-speaking Christians articulate ethical guidance within an Islamic intellectual world? Focusing on al-Maṣābīḥ chapter of the Kitāb al-Majdal (late tenth century), this book examines one of the earliest known examples of ethical writing in Christian Arabic literature. It highlights a Christian author’s creative intellectual engagement with inherited traditions, reshaped through interaction with the surrounding Islamic milieu. Drawing on close textual analysis, the study reveals processes of linguistic and conceptual acculturation, offering fresh insights into the intellectual history of medieval Arabic-speaking Christians and the development of Christian Arabic literature.
