What it takes to sustain leadership success
At some point in every senior leader's career, the skills that built success stop being enough to sustain it. The work accumulates, the stakes rise, and the gap between performing well and breaking down narrows. Most leadership books train skills at the surface. Conditioned is about what sits underneath them.
An athlete trains, competes, and recovers on a schedule with an off-season built in. Leadership has no off-season, and almost no one is conditioned for that. Allen Weaver brings more than twenty years in sport psychology, executive coaching, and Fortune 100 human resources to a consistent observation: the leaders who last are not the ones with the most refined skills, but the ones who built the conditioning that supports them.
Conditioned maps that conditioning through the Peak System. Two anchors, Mental Performance (how leaders show up) and Wellness (how they sustain the ability to keep showing up), are expressed across ten dimensions of leadership readiness, each read on a simple three-state scale: Peak, Plateau, and Valley. The book closes with three disciplines for the long climb of a leadership career: Mastery, Future-Proofing, and Legacy.
The stories come from boardrooms, locker rooms, and coaching environments: Mary Barra steadied General Motors in crisis, Lisa Su rebuilt AMD, and Rory McIlroy and LeBron James extended their peaks past the age when peaks are supposed to end. Weaver's own path runs from a marathon medical tent to the coaching practice it inspired. Conditioned is written for senior and mid-career leaders who have achieved success and now intend to sustain it.
Peak is what can be reached. Plateau is where reliable performance lives. Valley is where the learning happens. The climb begins with conditioning.
