Dave Richards has been camping since he was a teenager. Then he was worse than useless and had the good sense to give it up until he was in his thirties when he bought a camper-van for a year to see how he got on with it. Twenty-five years later he still owns that same vintage Volkswagen and rates himself as a reasonably accomplished camper. He doesn't drive to the back of beyond and spend a week eating moss, but he has written a popular cookery column for a leading VW magazine since 2009, and in that time has acquired what can best be described as an enthusiastic following.
