This book is the result of the final conference to the project Human Rights, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Interacting Markets in Africa. It provides a detailed overview of the challenges and opportunities related to corporate social responsibility by bringing together multiple perspectives on the interconnected issues of human rights and environmental justice in Africa. Emphasising the link between corporate social responsibility and the promotion and protection of these rights in Africa, authors analyse related challenges, such as the impact of companies on the rights of indigenous peoples.

Bernd Kannowski is chair for legal history and civil law at the University of Bayreuth (Germany), where he is member of the Cluster of Excellence “Africa Multiple”. Originally a specialist in medieval legal history, he has focused his research and teaching interests over the past years on the history of human rights.

Cecilia Ngaiza, Dr. Jur. (University of Bayreuth, 2024) is a Lecturer in Law and a Coordinator of Undergraduate Studies at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law since 1 February, 2019 and 1 October, 2024 respectively. She has published on topics related to group rights including women and indigenous peoples' rights.

Daniel A. Shayo, Dr. Jur. (Universität Konstanz, 2016) is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam School of Law, a former Head of Department of Economic Law from 2018 to 2024. He has published on the legal aspects of Corporate Social Responsibility, Sustainability and Corporate Governance.

Richard Frimpong Oppong is a Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, Canada. His areas of research interest include conflict of laws and regional economic integration in Africa.
