In the age of datafication and artificial intelligence, traditional approaches to cultural and literary analysis face unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Critical Cultumetry proposes a unified theoretical and technical framework for the study of cultural phenomena, bridging the gap between quantitative methods and critical theory. Drawing on fields such as informetrics, culturomics, and cultural analytics, this volume explores how digital tools, data science, and critical reflection can be combined to identify, interpret, and challenge structures of power, exclusion, and meaning in large textual corpora.
The book advocates for an approach that does not reduce culture to mere data but instead leverages computational techniques within a robust theoretical and interpretative context. Through a series of case studies, methodological proposals, and theoretical reflections, Critical Cultumetry offers scholars in the humanities, digital humanities, and cultural studies a roadmap for navigating and interrogating the complexities of culture in the digital and AI-driven era. This volume aims to foster new research practices that are both analytically rigorous and critically engaged.
