This book is a collection of articles dedicated to the origin of a number of Latin words with difficult etymologies. It also contains several chapters dealing with historical Latin word-formation. The book contains new formulations of some Latin sound laws and it discusses some processes, such as distant dissimilations and assimilations, which are shown to be more common than previously believed. Many new etymologies are proposed for Latin words, including those whose roots occur in most European languages.
