Do you think writing about women’s lives in revolutionary Cuba and in the US Exile are two separate worlds? Most critical studies do. Instead of specializing in either Cuban or Cuban American fiction, this publication brings them together. An original approach recognizes their shared tradition despite the contrasting political climates in which they were created. Through an innovative and provocative method, the book presents them as belonging to a common literary canon. The interdisciplinary, intersectional, and interlingual monograph examines Cuban (Portela and Guerra) and Cuban American (García and Obejas) womanhood as portrayed in present-day novels, drawing on feminist and postcolonial insights.
