A post-apocalyptic science fiction thriller of underground survival, ancient technology and a deadly struggle for control.
The journey into darkness has begun.
Asteroid AG5 has struck, leaving the Earth’s surface trapped beneath a choking cloud of dust. Deep underground, Sarah Morgan is being held prisoner inside USSB Sanctuary after uncovering ancient technology hidden beyond the human-built base.
But Sanctuary is only the entrance to something far greater: a colossal subterranean civilisation humanity did not create.
As Sarah searches for a way out, Professor Steiner and Robert Goodwin face a battle for control within the Global Meteor Response Council. With civilisation dying above and unknown creatures moving through the darkness below, Sanctuary may prove more dangerous than the world it was built to escape.
Dark Descent is Book Two in the Ancient Origins series, perfect for readers who love James Rollins, Preston & Child and A.G. Riddle, with underground exploration, ancient civilisations and post-apocalyptic survival. This continuous saga is best read in order.

Writing came relatively late in life, after a car accident and a health condition that left Rob at his home in Kent in the UK, with time to finally start a career he had always dreamed of.
The result was a book called 2040: Revelations. Set on earth in the near future as a huge asteroid neared its inevitable collision. Part of the book was concerned with the political response to the cataclysmic event and part was a startling tale of an archaeological discovery that would turn earth's history upside down.
Both aspects of the story are grounded in real life. Many countries have secret plans for an extinction level event, including secretive underground bunkers. And plenty of archaeologists have discussed the possibility that the ground beneath us still holds many secrets.
With a growing fanbase of readers, Rob wrote and published five further books in the series, renaming them 'Ancient Origins' along the way.
Tragically, while working on books 7 and 8, Rob lost his life. He was just 42 years old.
Today Rob's books are published by Fuse Books in collaboration with Rob's parents Terry and Maureen.
Together they plan to posthumously publish Ancient Origins books 7 and 8.
