The objectives of this chapter are to review what is achievable in DSS designed specifically for weed management, identify the obstacles in creating more effective DSS, and discuss how to increase adoption by farmers. DSS can model crop yield losses due to weed competition and set thresholds for intervention which can significantly reduce herbicide use. Developing DSSs able to prevent the spread of herbicide-resistant weeds is a challenging objective for experts and agronomists. Validated and reliable results as well as continuous communication between experts and farmers are key factors affecting adoption of DSS in weed management.
