As deputy for Sarthe until August 1822, then deputy for Seine from February 1824, Constant has definitively established himself as one of the leading figures in the Chamber. He holds his role as leader of the liberal opposition with tenacity, despite increasingly unfavorable circumstances. The speeches of these years are illuminated by the articles and pamphlets Constant published at the same time (collected in vol. 27 of the Œuvres).
